The consensus, and it is unanimous, is that Pell deserved it. And most posters feel Pell deserved more. If the movie were made today, he would have gotten more. In fact, it is possible Pell would have gotten what I suggested. They should have burned him.

I agree he should not have been beaten in the barber shop.

He should have had his head cut off and fed to the pigs.

Pell got ten years for murdering three young men. I don't shed any tears for him when I watch that scene.
