I want to like this movie. I've given it a few chances, but it just seems to be lacking something. I think it's the timing. The scenes fall flat. I love MP and the costuming. The mafia wives are great, too.

So it bugs me that the rest doesn't work.

Also, where was her little boy during her date? Did I miss something (like, did she find a babysitter)? Because if he was in his room the whole time, with the commotion with Connie, etc., it just doesn't ring true. He would have come out of the room and asked what was going on, right??

Her son slept over at a friend's house. You clearly just missed the line.

I agree, and I have a similar problem with Demme’s Something Wild. For someone who started out making comedies he really doesn’t have a knack for them. I think you’re right about the timing, the gags have a 15% hit rate.
