Did William Smith try to emulate R. Lee Ermey in your opinion in this?

And RIP to both actors by the way, Smith himself passed away this year a couple of months ago at 88.

As solid as his performance was, did anyone think that actor William Smith tried to appear almost R. Lee Ermey like, who especially was memorable in Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket" a year prior to this, with his tough authoritarian attitude and demeanor?

At first, I even thought it was R. Lee Ermey himself, his face looked and voice sounded quite similar.

Interestingly enough, R. Lee Ermey went to play a police captain himself in David Fincher's acclaimed 1995 serial killer thriller "Se7en" 7 years later.

In any case, did anyone else see such similarities and did anyone think it was R. Lee Ermey at first? Cheers.
