Hilarious!!
Harrison Ford was so funny in this movie. I think i almost LOL`ed the whole movie because of his neurotic way of acting and the bizare situations that he gets himself in.
Anyone agree?

shareYeah, there's a great sense of humor in this movie. I especially like the way he picks up the dead guy's head before he closes the car door after the first botched exchange. Of course, the whole, "That's right. I am an American. And I am crazy!" exchange is a classic.
shareI laughed the loudest when he was in the public phone talking to someone who didn't really help him out much - can't remember the exact words but basically calls them a moron.
shareYes.
shareI always thought the part where Richard was climbing across the roof to Michelle's apartment was funny, especially when he nearly fell and dropped the suitcase. What an underrated classic that movie is!

What is so funny is how this movie represents Polanski's frustration with bureaucracy, especially French bureaucracy. The horrible circumstance Ford's character finds himself in, and the skepticism and lack of urgency he is met with contribute to his agitated, nervous manner.
If you've ever been in France and tried to get any form of bureaucracy to move quickly, you know how poor Walker must have felt. That, for me, is truly hilarious.
DismembersOnly's bureaucracy statemnte is true. My father always identified with the scene where Ford can't get the American embassy to do squat to find his wife, since he had an episode with his first wife vanishing in Brazil in '69 and the embassy turned out to be useless.
shareHe's trying way too hard to not look like an action star. That scene on the roof was way to funny with all the slipping, sliding.
shareHarrison Ford's character does play certain parts for comedy (most notably the "You're damn right i am an American and i am crazy!!" whilst naked holding a cuddly monkey over his groin) so yeah i think there's an undercurrent of humour. It's a very Hitchcock style having seriousness and humour going hand in hand...
Other comedy moments you may have missed (that me and my mates find hilarious!)
* Harrison at the embassy showing them how his wife was abducted by putting his arm around an embassy bureaucrat. Harrison then continues to leave his arm drapped around the hapless man whilst berating the men for not taking him seriously.
* The previously noted 'bumbling on the roof'
* The inept American embassy asking how to spell "Paris Midi" (bearing in mind they work in France!) to which Harrison Ford yells "With an S for sh 1t head!"
* A comedy fumble for the 'Kyrtron' resulting in Michelle spraying mace at everyone (including Harrison Ford) she then drags him into the street where he bumbles into a frenchman's table knocking it clean over...and the man doesn't flinch and continues drinking his coffee.
* "You're damn right i am an American and i am crazy!" before being kicked in the face.
* The really hectic music when they escape in the car with the dead arab in the front seat...Then Harrison lifts the dead mans head to close the car door.
* The oddball dance scene in the night club...Harrison looks so uncomfortable!!
"What are you, some kind of doomsday machine, boy?"
It's the semi-nude scene, with the stuffed animal in front of Harrison's groin that makes me laugh soooo hard! "You're damn right I'm American and I'm crazy!" Although I did not know whether to laugh or feel bad for him when he was kicked. It's a mixture of both I suppose.
Harrison was great in this film, both comically and dramatically.

No one mentioned another hilarious bit in the movie. When Walker and Michelle are walking out of the houseboat, watch Walker zip up his fly and hurt his foot and go 'owww'. lol
shareAnd of course, when he meets the other doctors at the airport. At first he tries to save face, and soon stops trying. Harrison Ford is a great actor and funny as hell, I hope has many more movies in him.
- A point in every direction is the same as no point at all.
Another great one:
Walker writing a check for skanky Michelle in front of the hotel personnel, they must be thinking god-knows-what.
Yeah you guys named some good ones.
I laughed the hardest though when Michelle sprayed all three of them with mace LOLMAO.
Another scene that I thought was kinda funny was when Walker walked through the hotel lobby with no shoes on and his suit all messed up.
"What are you looking at daddy-o?!"
After watching this film again last night, I realized just how hilarious the roof scene is! Taking off his shoe, losing it and being frustrated, he throws the other one. Love it!

I'd seen this film years ago, in the theatre, and just saw it again the other day. You're right it's so so close to hilarious. If this film starred Peter Sellers instead of Harrison Ford, it would have been a comedy and they wouldn't have had to change a single thing.

Thank goodness that suggestion of yours wasn't the way that this movie actually turned out to be. Was this to be a comedy I'd be very upset about it.
