Sergeant Powell's name is confusing

When McClane was addressing him on the radio I thought he was calling him 'pal' instead of 'Powell'. I didn't realize he was saying 'Powell' until seeing the movie with subtitles.

I was especially thrown off since one of the first lines McClane says to him is "Welcome to the party, pal."

I found it confusing until I read this thread. I commend the OP for clarifying this. You should be more grateful as I am.

so did I , and still do , i dont remember him calling him powell at any point

If you watch with subtitles you'll see that McClane is calling him Powell. You can also see it in the screenplay...

This is actually the first I'm hearing of this. I've always thought it was "pal."

I mean they are similar to pronounce. So I don't have a problem with it.
