How stupid was the RC Car Chase?
I thought the whole sequence where they were chased by the Remote Control Car was about as dumb as any in the five movies.

shareIMO it was a clever idea that probably would have worked better in a comedy instead of a cop thriller like 'The Dead Pool'.
sharePretty stupid :) But definitely a different, funny and exciting SF car chase.
shareI thought it was hysterically absurd. My favorite scene of the movie by far.
"They're coming to get you Barbara"
He should have just back up over it and crushed the damn thing. That would have been more of a true Dirty Harry moment.
shareThe more I think about it the less I think the OP (and some others of us) actually got it...
Clint was playing games with us in this one, finishing off the franchise with something that took the rise out of Dirty Harry just a little and played out the themes or action sequences from the other movies in the franchise.
The RC car chase is just one example:
We have a total psycho serial killer a la Dirty Harry (and questionably in Sudden Impact) as the main bad guy.
We have a car chase with a bomb involved a la Magnum Force.
Harry survives against people with machine pistols and takes them all out pretty much without a scratch - The Enforcer
Harry gets a bigger gun (harpoon gun) - Sudden Impact (auto-mag) and Enforcer (LAWS rocket).
Just a thought...
completely goofy. As if they wanted to lighten the flick...however, this is a Dirty Harry movie. The name of the topic is vengeance and justice for crimes too insane to contemplate. Being comedic is both unnerving and off the regular track of the rest of the series.
Besides how much explosives can a model car carry, anyway? Why didn't bad guy just attach a bomb to the underside of Harry's car and hit a button while he peeled out?
It seemed to me that they would have had time at some point to jump out of the car and run away.
shareIt was original, if nothing else.
--If they move, kill 'em!
It was so laughable. I couldn't believe it was something they would throw into a Dirty Harry movie. It's like something out of a spoof movie. Although this whole movie is somewhat of a joke, especially compared to the first couple DH movies...
"Did you mean for all those words to come out like that or did they just fall out randomly?"-H.H.
The toy car chase was just pathetic jobbies. The movie was a turd. I just saw the complete film for the first time and I was SO disappointed. All that hammy horror movie stuff, like an episode from The Monkees or something equally cheap and gimicky. Pure rubbish.

Be seeing you
I have to agree- I think it was the worst scene in ANY Dirty Harry movie.
I can usually suspend my disbelief long enough to enjoy the plot in a movie- but this time- NO.
1) I don't really believe a toy car can handle the way this one did at these speeds and with this hilly area. And no one in that sidewalk portion kicked, knocked it over? I mean, this car gets flipped & it's all over.
2) There's no way that a guy driving a car at that speed could also RC a car at that speed and through all of those obstacles.
3) I love Lalo Schiffrin, but his crap music during both RC car scenes made it worse!

While unrealistic, I thought it was very entertaining.
