This guy has some serious issues on top of his drug addiction.
Well coming from an addict myself. When you are high or going through withdrawal you would do things that you never thought you were capable of.
shareIn addition to what jjjones said, long term addiction changes people psychologically, so they will do things they wouldn't normally do if they were not addicts. He was at the end of his rope, but he couldn't see how wrong it was asking his mother for money, even to their detriment. No sober person who is in their right mind would ever do such a thing to a parent.

In addition to substance abusers, I can also see how someone with a gambling addiction might do such a thing to a parent unjustly to somehow "right their wrongs" but in actuality cover their gambling debts. Gambling is a serious addiction too and that is exactly what Daryl did with the company money.
shareTo be fair, he was in a horrible situation..When he was High and Addicted he embezzled Money from his company and lost most of it in the Stock Market and too paying for Drugs, he also had that girl OD in his house and was partially responsible..
So when he has a dead girl to answer for and on his conscience, he not only owes money to his job, but he also may be out of a job and possibly arrested if he does not replace it and he is Sober now with massive anxiety...He kinda was in a desperate situation.
