The First 45 Minutes is Surprisingly Terrific
I think this is a pretty underrated movie overall with few aspects that haven't aged as well as others (most notably the whole Voodoo subplot) but the buildup of suspense in the first half was really well done. Tom Holland is an admirer of Hitchcock and doles out the suspense very effectively in the beginning.
The second half when Chucky comes alive is not as good, but it is still quite decent and the effects are terrific in certain parts. The climax is also very memorable. Given all that, I'm surprised at the low rating on here.
