Best lines in the movie...

When Crash gets up to leave the meeting with himself, Nuke and Annie at Annie's house. Crash says " I dont believe in Quantum Physics when it comes to matters of the heart". Annie asks " what do you believe in" ?
What is the dialogue Crash says to her?

reply

Just read through. "We're dealing with a lot of sh*t" gets me every time.

Can't believe no one has mentioned anything from Annie's opening monologue though: "..and I never sleep with a man batting under .250 unless he's got a high rbi total or a great glove in the field" (something like that -- something all baseball wives should live by).

reply

Can't believe the one no one has mentioned:

After Crash tells the batter what Nuke is going to throw, the guy stands there and admires it. Crash yells: "I give you a gift and you show up my pitcher? RUN DUMMY!!!!" I laugh every time.

Such a perfect little movie, and all of these wonderful lines. I just watched Bull Durham (for maybe the 10th time) and, it is a film that truly improves with age.

Many thanks to all for taking the time to post all these gems. Much appreciated.

My number one favorite line? "Honey, we all deserve to wear white."

Everyone's posted some classics, but one of my faves is when Crash wakes Nuke up from his nightmare:

Crash: You're awake. You're okay
Nuke: I had the most horrible dream, I was playing naked.
Crash: (Matter of factly) I know. I have that dream all the time.

reply

Nuke: "Annie, I know you're in there. I can hear that crazy Mexican singer"

reply

I've read all six pages and nobody has covered the following.

Crash: "This guy starts me with a breaking ball... I'm taking him downtown."
Then following the dinger he slaps his cheeks dramatically as he passes the dugout.

Crash: "Come on meat, bring me that weak ass sh!t. Come on, bring it... bring it..."

Nuke: "Can't you even let me enjoy the moment?"
Crash: "The moment's over."

Nuke: "Whoo that was a humdinger."

Nuke: *incredulously* "God, that was beautiful what I do."

*Batter stands there after hitting Nuke's authoritative fastball*
Crash: "What are you doing, huh? What are you doing standing here, I give you a gift and you stand here, show up my pitcher? Run dummy!"

Nuke: "Why is he always calling me meat? I'm the guy driving a Porsche."

Crash: *To the umpire* "Gimme a ball."

Skipper: *Deep sigh* "This is the toughest job a manager has... but, the organization's decided to make a change."

*After crash takes Nuke's guitar*
Nuke: "What?"
Crash: "Its not woolly. Nobody gets woolly. Women get weary, they don't get woolly. Nobody's got stress they're wearing a dress. Goddamn I hate people that get the words wrong."

*Nuke punches Crash*
Crash: "Aww... aww, ya hurt my eye...."

Crash: "I have been known on occasion to howl at the moon. You understand?"
Nuke: "Ummm... no."

There's more but I can't be bothered to find the exact dialogue and I won't post a paraphrase.

reply

"Lollygaggers"

"Women don't get wooly, nobody gets wooly."

reply

No, they don't get wooly.
What a great movie...
can't believe no one mentioned Nuke's great line:
"Mav, that MIG really screwed him up."

Or when talking about reincarnation: 'how come no one's ever Joe Schmo?'

reply

Yeah, I really liked this movie to. My favorite quote isn't really humor, just an observance about the stadiums. "...And the ballparks are like Cathedrals." As a baseball fan, I always thought of them that way since pops took me to my first game.

reply

Frenetic gum chewing (chomp chomp chomp) with a distant gaze of concentration: "Candlesticks always make a nice gift. We can check the registry, maybe a place setting".

Strike outs are boring...and besides that they're fascist.

Crash Davis: "Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic."
