Favorite Episode

What's your favorite episode and why?

I love the one where Fisher abuses Jackie, not for that reason though. There's so many good lines and scenes throughout the episode. The people at school thinking Dan was dead, Roseanne laughing at Darlene's obscene comic, Dan "killing Fisher and then buying chicken". Dan seeing the Principal while in the back of the cop car.

Even the episode that follows it is great. Roseanne giving Darlene a list of things to do including bailing Dan out of jail. Darlene bailing him out and telling him they have a new father. Dan saying "What is this, Mayberry?" when friends are over after hearing he was in jail. Solid writing all around.

Every first season episode was great. Don't know why, but I always liked the tornado episode. And also the one were Jackie drove Crystal over the bridge where her former husband Sonny was "buried."

Another good one was Dan almost (and eventually) getting into a fight at the bar on his birthday.

The episode where Dan and Roseanne get into a big fight after she quit Wellman's and thinks she's found a job but hasn't is another good one. Ditto for the one where Jackie plays mom while Roseanne is out of town.

The first season (and some of the second) were so real and authentic to what it was like growing up in the lower middle class of 1980's suburbia. The pain and heartache, the struggles, the fun, the laughter and love...

The only show that was ever more authentic was the Wonder Years.

I hear ya. I grew up very similar to them in this show. It was very real.

I didn't know those episodes were the first of the season. I love the tornado and bridge one too.

I think season four is a close second. Nearly every episode was perfect. Roseanne being a waitress was the job that suited her the best and her duo schemes with Bonnie.

Another good episode is when Booker goes to the car show with another woman, and Jackie uses Roseanne's wedding ring to make him pay for it.

And also the one where Roseanne and Dan start throwing each other's stuff out of the door. Great stuff.

Just like the OP said, the two parter with Dan beating up Fisher is a classic. It was a very serious subject but the show managed to walk the fine line between treating it as such and finding the dark humor in it.

I like when Jackie alternates between yelling at Dan for hitting Fisher and being overcome with emotion that he really cares about her.

One of my favorite scenes is when Anne Marie and her husband (forget his name at the moment) come over and bring Dan a harmonica for those long nights in jail.

And Roseanne declares ,"We're officially poor white trash. All we need is a little halfwit out in the front yard eating dirt." And little D.J. walks in. So perfectly timed and funny.

Also was great when Roseanne warns Fisher that she is way more dangerous than Dan. 'I have a loose meat restaurant and I know what to do with the body."

That gets me everytime.

I just started watching the re-runs in earnest. I love the episode where Roseanne finds the pot and forgets it is hers. Then she, Dan and Jackie smoke a joint. The scene in the bathroom with all of them stoned is a classic! (Especially Jackie, sitting in the bathtub with the shower curtain drawn...)

My favorite Roseanne episode, when Dan sang Sweet Home Alabama with Blues Traveler, had to be a great rush for him, personally. Blues Traveler Rocks
