The new 25th Anniversary Set is marketed as a Limited Edition tin. Is the tin the only thing that is limited? I might wait until you can get a cheaper version without the tin if there is nothing else that will be different.

reply

Pumaman? PUMAMAN?!?

It's hard to believe: we actually got Gorgo and Pumama, two highly-demanded episodes with sticky rights issues, announced in the same year. Now all I've left to wish for is Godzilla vs Ebirah (and a Megalon rerelease), although those are probably a bigger pipe dream than Pumaman ever was.

Plus, we also get another Hercules movie (which, like the Russo-Finnish films, are rather entertaining on their own merits) and Untamed Youth ("That phone doesn’t look like it was made for a human head"), one of the better Season 1 episodes.

We now have all of season one.

Day the Earth Froze -422 is not in vol XXVIII. Where is it?

reply

It's on Vol 28, AKA The 25th Anniversary Edition.

reply

Wow, only 45 episodes left!
GO SHOUT FACTORY, GO!!!

reply

10 or so more sets to go, if we can avoid more legal hiccups!

So what do we have? Well, Outlaw of Gor is pretty good ("I came here to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all out of ass!") and Black Scorpion is a curiosity (for William O' Brien's effects on a tighter budget).... not much else to say.

In any case, Season 1 (the weakest year) is now complete, so future releases will be for the most part dud (or bore) free.

New Set, SQUIRM!!

reply

Oh boy, Squirm! That's not only a fine episode, but one I enjoy in its own form as I enjoy me some killer bug movies. ("It took all my strength to get the plywood off me." "It must have been one of those things where adrenaline kicks in and you get superhuman strength.")

Jeff Leiberman'll grind his teeth once he hears of the new release. Also, I can finally own A Case Of Spring Fever starring that loveable Lovecraftian deathmonger Coily!

Also of note is Lassie: The Painted Hills, which I didn't think was bad in its own right (just your simple 'hero dog' movie of its time), but a rare 'innocent film' that still made a good riff. ("One of these is cleansing cream. One of these is nitric acid. Choose wisely.")

And a final note, we're getting close to finishing Season 10, yeah! 2 more to go!

"DO NOT WRECK THIS GIGANTIC DOOM."

reply

I saw Squirm for the first time a few weeks ago, and wasn't impressed. I thought the short was great, very funny, but the riffing on the movie was pretty dull. Other then the plywood part I can't remember any funny riffs from Squirm.

I understand it's from the SciFi years when management was looking over their shoulders. Right now there aren't any DVD sets I'd pay full price for because of the mix of good and bad episodes. I keep an eye on Amazon for sales, but wouldn't spend much on anything with most episodes from later season.

I find it interesting that every episode in the next set will have a short. Qaudfecta!
