Not from the 80's but early 90's Bushwhacked with Daniel Stern, a bumbling delivery guy who witness a murder take some scouts in a similar scenario, minus the douche for a guide. The bad guys of course start to track them. It's a nice funny kid friendly film.

Well, if five years later you are still seeking recommendations, then how about A Cry in the Wild. It was filmed in the late 80's and released in 1990. It is a survival/woods movie.
