"Better three point plans". CLASSIC! Love this movie, but that cracked me up.
Yes, Bud's plan was ridiculous. And Gekko couldn't have cared less...he only wanted it to bust it up. Don't forget, he had the Bleezburg brothers ready to build condos, the Mexicans (stupid enough) to buy the planes, and Texas Air drooling to take the slots. What's the problem? It's done!
Yeah, I thought it was a crappy plan too. Maybe they exaggerated it a bit, because they wanted to make a hint to the audience that Carl Fox's critique on his son's lack of qualification for the position had merit and that Gordon Gekko had alterior motives.
Well what are the use of my brains if I'm tied up with a dumb cluck like you?
I've thought the same thing. Bud's plan is meant to sound stupid/basic because he is out of his depth. He hasn't become "successful" because he's a brilliant business man. He's become successful because he decided to kiss Gekko's @$$ and was willing to participate in illegal activity if it meant he'd get rich. His father's assessment was bang on, what the heck does Bud know about running an airline? Nothing.
I think the embarrassing thing about his plan is that he didn't explain how he intended on getting any of his ideas accomplished. "We need to advertise more! And expand the airline!"....no, really? A monkey could probably figure that out. If he'd gone into some detail in regards to how to effectively get that done, then maybe it wouldn't have sounded so ridiculous. But he probably doesn't have a clue, because this isn't his area of expertise. As I said, he's out of his depth. His plan literally sounds like he jotted down the first things that came to mind in the 30 seconds prior to his guests arriving.
I'm not sure the initial meeting was meant to get into that much detail. The idea was to give a high-level view of their strategy, with subsequent meetings to discuss how they are going to implement their strategy. Even the flight attendant lady said they "sketched some broad strokes" and would like to see the "find print".
I think Bud's plan to try to make BlueStar Airlines more profitable wasn't as laughable as most people think. If anybody saw the sequel to Wall Street, Bud took over BlueStar Airlines as President after he served time in jail and made it a very profitable airline. He is now retired and living the life he always wanted. I guess his 3 point plan worked afterall.

That wasn't part of Bud's 3-point plan. That was mostly due to Larry Wildman manipulating the stock price to the point that Gekko wanted to dump his shares. Wildman was only willing to do this if A) He could burn Gordon ass and 2) Get majority shares of the company with Union concessions to cut down operating expenses. As we saw earlier in the film, Wildman was himself taking a different path as WS player where before he was like Gekko, only 5 times bigger, but now really wanted to build companies for the long haul. He also was eager to hire Bud after his stint in prison, so again in no way did Bud incorporate the Larry Wildman's involvement into his initial 3-point plan.
I only said that the plan was a joke because I'm an NYU grad and we had to give presentations all the time and if you brought one like that you would have gotten wrecked by your classmates.
I don't know what you NYU guys learned, but didn't you hear? He's gonna overhaul the software and voila - people will pay $379 for a $79 seat. You just wish you could come up with a cunning plan like that.
If bud testified against gecko why did he get jail time and gecko got LESS time then bud. Never rat out, sell out or punk out is the best 3 point plan.
IMDB as of late, sold out and became like City Data and about.com, worthless bureaucrats.
I thought Bud's "three point plan" was brilliant! My company is not doing well financially so although I am a lowly employee, I am going to take a "three point plan" to the Board of Directors. I'm sure they will be duly impressed with the "three point plan"
I will report back once they have appointed me President ...
