This movie is a remake of 'Pretty In Pink' (SPOILERS)

....with the genders switched.

Andie-is a male, Keith Nelson (Eric Stoltz)

Duckie-A gal, Watts (Mary Stuart Masterson)

Blane-A gal, Amanda Jones (Lea Thompson)

This time, there is no female Steff McKee, Andie/Keith (Stoltz) has a dad and a mom, plus siblings. Also, he's an artist, and Duckie/Watts is a drummer. There is no prom, and this time.....

Andie/Keith gets Duckie/Watts!! Mostly because Amanda/Blane realizes that she's just 'slumming' with Keith.

Anybody agree, or disagree?

I totally disagree....this is NOT a remake of Pretty in Pink. It's more of a version...and the Stef in this movie would be Hardy Jenns. Not to mention I do not think Amanda dumped him because she thought she was slumming with Keith...Amanda KNEW he had feelings for Watts by the way he was looking at her...Amanda obviously cared for him since she teared up when she sent him on his way to Watts.

From what I understand, in the original cut of the movie, Andie does end up with Duckie. Even in the novelization of the movie, Andie and Duckie end up together. But most novelizations always based on the original screenplay. The original cut didn't go well with test audiences. Also, Molly Ringwald wasn't feeling it either. Mostly because of John Cryer. Robert Downey Jr. was originally up for the role of Duckie, and she wanted him for the role, and had he gotten it I think the ending would have been a lot different. I also think I heard that the director wasn't glad about the change in the ending. But he and Hughes did Some Kind of Wonderful, and that kind of made up for Pretty in Pink.

This is exactly what happened. Test audiences did not like the ending where Andie and Duckie became a couple. They wanted Andie with Blaine. Can't say that I blame them. Duckie was just too weird to want him with Andie.

Since John Walters didn't get the ending he wanted with PiP, he made another movie SKoW with the best friends ending up together. He made the best friend a bit odd but not really weird like he did with Duckie. The audience actually wanted Keith and Watts to get together, not Keith and the popular girl, Amanda. So basically John Walters remade PiP with the ending he had always wanted. I actually think SKoW is the better of the two movies.

I think Hardy and Steff shared the same white suit.

Yup except I liked this better than Pretty in Pink. Didn't like the ending of PiP, but it's still a good movie. I just liked Watts better as the guy/girl in the friend zone. Duckie was funny but she had a more three dimensional personality. Even if PiP had ending with her ending up with Duckie, I'd still like SKOW better. I think even the same vice versa. SKOW just ending with Keith being with Amanda, but not w/o making up with Watts like Andie did with Duckie. So basically they didn't have to "end up together" and it still woulda been better, but it's an 80's teen movie so...
