Wow this movie's effects are nearly perfect...
Watching it in UHD and other than the stop-motion sequences and Dick Jone's death, the effects in this film are perfect. Robocop's suit is worth special note.
You couldn't see any indication that the suit was a prop. It literally looked like titanium coated in brushed Kevlar. When it gets shot up by ED-209 and the heavy caliber rounds from police, it looks even more realistic.
The only time you can almost see the under-layer of the suit is when Weller lifts his left-arm up during the Directive 4 sequence before ED-209 comes in, and you can see that there's a black suit under the coiled layer beneath the black armor plating, which was beneath the titanium plates.
There was just so much detail put into this film. The squibbing was also probably the best in motion picture history. I think a close second would probably be the original Die Hard, but I may have to watch that again in UHD just to see.
But man, this movie holds up so well, especially compared to today's tripe. It was certainly ultra-violent, but Hollywood was really rocking and rolling during the ultra-violent era with some timeless gems.
It's a shame that there isn't one movie made today as well paced, as action-packed, and as politically incorrect with all its very relevant social commentary as RoboCop.
Definitely puts into perspective that this film's praise and iconic status certainly isn't being measured through rose-tinted glasses.
