Finally Saw It for the First Time and Loved It

Last night I watched The Princess Bride. Believe it or not, I had never seen this very famous movie before. I actually had the chance to see it in the theater. At that time our town did not have a theater (nor did we for another 14 years) but I happened to be in a town 30 miles away when the movie was showing. Had I been alone I might or might not have decided to see it, but as it was I was with a friend who could be kind of annoying at times and it would have meant staying late in that town when I had already had enough of being there plus I didn't know whether this guy might get annoying when I wasn't in the mood for it so I just said I'm getting tired so let's go home. Since then I have seen a lot of bits and pieces of the movie and know the more famous quotes but I'd never sat through it. It is a highly entertaining comedy drama. All the roles were perfectly cast and acted and kudos to the director and the high production values. There is some violence including a poisoning (very deserved) and sword fights with some blood, and anyone with PTSD from waterboarding or something will not like the torture scenes, but overall I'd say this is all right for young children, how young depends on the judgement of their parents. Highly recommended.

I have to confess I have never seen the appeal of this movie. I tried to watch it a few times but gave up. I don't see the appeal and I didn't get the humour.

Maybe if someone did a remake they would be able to improve on it... :)

You can't improve on perfection but someone may well try.

That was tongue in cheek about the remake...there seemed to be a few threads on here about a remake recently and obviously most people think it's a bad idea.
