Expenses Racked up During the Trip...

Along with wrecking the front of the motel, and completely destroying the rental car, what do you think were the total expenses that Neil and Del managed to rack up on their journey home?

Please post below with any answers.

Hard to say because we don’t know the cost of the meals, train tickets, bus tickets, etc. But Neal was definitely out thousands of dollars with the rental car.

Del was maybe out $300 (he was robbed $263 and paid for one meal)

Hi MovieChatUser497,

OK, that's a good point and hopefully we can get a discussion / debate started here.

I was thinking more in terms of the destruction the duo caused on the trip - The rental car is a good start - what about the destruction they did to the front of the motel?

Are there any other expenses they racked up that anyone else can think about?

Please post with any thoughts.

That’s true but seeing how they fled the scene they didn’t have to pay for it and I doubt the place had a security camera

That's a good point (about not being held accountable due to a quick escape) but I think it would be more interesting if we could tot up the expenses in terms of the dame done during the trip home i.e.:

1. The price of the rental car (on Neil's credit card)
2. The cost of the front of the motel
3. Any other expenses the duo racked up due to destruction on the trip...

I’ll try to ballpark it:

Neal’s expenses:
- $75 for cab (which he didn’t get)
- $10 for bus to airport (total guess)
- $100 for Doobie’s cab (I think a deleted scene said it was about that much)
- $40 for Braidwood Inn room (ballpark)
- $20 for Pizza and Beer (Deleted Scene)
- Robbed $700
- $10 for breakfast
- $20 for train tickets (total guess)
- $20 for bus tickets (total guess)
- $100 for White Lincoln rental car (which he never got), I’m assuming the rental agent who told him he was fucked didn’t give him his money back
- $15,000 for destruction of the Family Truckster
- $17 and one hell of a nice watch for second hotel room
- $1000 for damage to second hotel (total guess, but he fled the scene so he didn’t pay it)
- $20 for train ticket

Neals Total Expenses (very rough ballpark): $17,132 - $1000 = $16,132

Del’s Expenses:
- Robbed $263
- $20 for lunch in St. Louis

Del’s Total Expenses: $283

Thanks,

That's very well thought out indeed - A pricey trip all around for Neal, then - The price of Neal's 'helluva nice watch' - probably covered the price of any destruction done to the second hotel.

That's some good accounting right there,

Anyone else should feel free to post.

Cheers for now.

Whilst I'm not American and have no idea what US prices were at the time, somehow it doesn't surprise me that poor old Neal would be out $16,000, whilst Del is out a grand total of $283!

It's true they made a "quick escape," but it's uncertain if they could truly escape getting caught after that incident.

They could both easily be identified by the employee who checked Neal into his room. I'd imagine the condition of the car didn't go unnoticed. So reporting the incident to the police department, coupled with the fact that the car was impounded, would easily be traced back to Neal (and in effect, Del).

I'd say they were in hot water.

But . . . I'd rather not think about these things when enjoying a good movie!

Good point 'Seperatrix' I like where your thinking is at!
