Did del move in with Neal?

He probably had Thanksgiving dinner with Neal's family and then Neal probably got him squared away at a homeless shelter. I don't think he would have moved in.

Del was a traveling nomad. He wasn’t homeless as much as he was a traveler. He scrounged up $ touring the country selling his shower rings and crashing in hotels. The ending is ambiguous for a reason. I think Del would be too proud to stay for good. Thanksgiving dinner and on his way. Maybe Neal helps him find more stable employment.

Del wasn’t homeless because he was poor, he didn’t have a home because he traveled so much. He could have had a home if he wanted one.

I’d really like to think that Neal helped Del out with maybe some accommodation and perhaps gave him some assistance in finding a job. No doubt at least Del spent Thanksgiving with the Pages’. Even if Del left to continue his travels after Thanksgiving he and Neal would’ve remained good friends. They went through a lot together.

The ending of this film is sentimental but not too much so, just enough to pull at our heartstrings. It’s very touching and a great film.

RIP John Candy.

No, he didn’t move in. But the fact that Steve Martin invited him to Thanksgiving — that suggests that they will never lose touch. They will be friends for the rest of their lives. Who knows whether Del will get a stable household or what though

I like to think that considering it was Thanksgiving night, most places in Chicago would've been booked solid so Del probably did stay at least that one night with Neal, if not an extra night or two until motels cleared up a bit. I know Del would've wanted to impose for as little time as possible. Once the holiday passed and availability opened up, Neal would help Del secure a room at a decent Motel.

Afterward, it sort of depends on what Del wants to do. If Del wants to stay put and try to put down roots, Neal might be able to help him get an entry level job in the same marketing firm he works for and help him find a nice apartment or even a small house. If Del would rather continue traveling and selling his shower curtain rings, then Neal could still help him find a smaller more basic apartment that could act as a home base for Del so that he can retire his trunk and travel a little lighter, but more importantly he'll always have a place to return to and a friend to spend the holidays with.

I thought it was kind of an open invitation to stay by Neal.

Del would have burned their house down within a month.
