Earth
He-Man had his own fantasy world.
So what were they thinking, setting most of it on Earth?

how else would you include Monica?
shareEarth was only there to save money.
shareThis was a Cannon film. They make cheap movies and crank them out to make a few million, and repeat. They wouldn't spend the money on special affects.
shareThey already built sets for Castle Greyskull and Gwildor's house. The exteriors looked like they were all shot at Vasquez Rocks, so they could have filmed the entire movie in Eternia without breaking a sweat. I think it would actually have been cheaper for them to build a couple more sets and shoot the rest of the movie out in the desert instead of shutting down downtown Whittier for several nights. They obviously spent a lot of money from their $20 million budget trashing a High School gym and a music store, as well as on the useless chase scene riding those little floating discs which could all have been spent better and smarter on the fantasy setting. Someone somewhere made the bone-headed decision to set the movie 60% on Earth while far cheaper movies have maintained a fantasy setting throughout (take BEASTMASTER for instance at $9 Million, or even the original CONAN THE BARBARIAN at $20 million).
shareYou have to remember this was 1987 and He-Man was a children's show that started in the mid-80s. In other words, adults would not have been invested into the He-Man universe like they are today because they grew up with it. I imagine that they had Masters of the Universe interact with Earth so it made it more relevant to adults who weren't familiar with the franchise but who also like a good bit of action/fantasy.
