Who saw this in cinemas back in 87?

Who saw this back in the day? What are your memories - the anticipation of seeing it in the weeks/days before, the actually seeing it and how much a big deal was it where you were back then, the crowds, audience etc and after coming out of the cinema what were your thoughts and in the days/weeks that followed...

I remember going to see it summer 87 and seeing the awesome quad poster in plastic casing outside that made it look like Star Wars IV or something http://www.sci-fimovieposters.co.uk/images/posters-m/M-0013_Masters_of_the_Universe_quad_movie_poster_l.jpg
For me at the time it felt like a full blown epic - the sets, the costumes, the Eternia landscapes, the score, Skeletors army on earth, the final battle in GreySkull . It really was like Star Wars 4 (SW on earth)

it even had a sort of BTTF timetravel vibe what with the two time periods, the going through the Portal, getting stranded, the altered present end, and of course BTTFs Mr Strickland who looked exactly like he did in BTTF!

I didn't realise until years later it wasn't considered a good movie and was abit of a flop (hence why there were no sequels)...plus that it was like a low budget Cannon movie as it looked very expensive (then again I imagine it probably had a similar budget to Aliens out the year b4 and that looked like a big budget movie)

I remember I bought the Marvel comic adapation and panini sticker book after:

I remember waiting in a long line to see this with my brothers at the mall. I was 5 at the time and the theater was packed, lots of guys from what I remember.

I remember it being more scary than the cartoon, esp. the scene where courtney cox gets chased around by the villains at the HS in the beginning. I also remember not recognizing some of the newer characters (being used to the series), like Saurad and Blade and Grilldor and .. Skeletor. I guess I was so used to the animation version of him. He was very white and cloaked in the movie and more serious, but animated skeletor was yellowish and supposed to be blue.

I enjoyed it, but was confused by the robot army and modern day setting, like, "wasn't it supposed to be set in fantasy dark ages and isn't there supposed to be more creatures and monsters??"

I liked it and the experience was invigorating!!! It was very loud and there was lots of action, not exactly what I was expecting in terms of the original cartoon storyline but it was somehow better, and I loved the sets in the movie and the special effects!

I thought Karg was pretty scary at the time, also!! Very scary! Now that I look at him he looks like a cross between Rawhead Rex and Blade from Puppet Master (FrEakY!!).

Oh yeah, and my favorite action figure was Saurad because he made sparks when you spun a wheel on his back, very cool!!

Yea I was 7 then... I had the giant plastic Castle Grayskull and everything. So I don't remember anything about people coming out of the theater, or movie posters and whatnot.

Glad it's on NFLX. Frank Langella as Skeletor... pure gold.

I was 15 when I went to see this in the theater with my younger brother. We both watched He-Man and were really excited to see it! (This may seem strange that a 15 year old girl was all a-flutter about seeing the live action version of a cartoon, but I am a HUGE cartoon fan and there hasn't been a Saturday in my life without watching cartoons...plus, I had a huge crush on Dolph Lundgren!)

We enjoyed the movie, but we were both kind of disappointed that Battle Cat wasn't in it. And I wasn't that jazzed about the teen protagonists, although I did like Courteney Cox on Misfits of Science. Dolph's He-Man seemed more of a tough guy than the cartoon version (I HATED Prince Adam.) Skeletor was WAY scarier in this flick than on the show. I still want to see Skeletor and Mumm-Ra battle it out one day.

This question crossed my path at a weird time. My brother died tragically almost a year ago and I'm watching MOTU right now. It brings back some good memories of him. He had several of the action figures, but he seemed to like Skeletor and Beast Man the most. Good times!

I saw on tape with a friend. Don't remember thinking to much of it except Skeletor reminded me more of the villain from She-Ra. Didn't care for the teen protagonists, I always hated when they did that in fantasy movies. I recall thinking there'd be a sequel b/c of the after credits sequence.

Now I'd call it an amusing time waster. Not a bad double-feature (or a bad one depending on how you look at it) with Superman IV.

I never got to see this film in theaters, unfortunately. I was seven years old at the time, didn't get an allowance or anything like that and going to the movies just wasn't something my family did. I would have loved to have seen it on the big screen, but had to wait for the video release. I am a HUGE He-Man fan and this is Still one of my favorite movies to date.
