That's right. Less Than Zero remake is planned for 2009 by director Quentin Tarantino. May possibly end up being called somthing else. But will blow the socks off the original, I BET!! Heard that Brad Renfro (The Client, Bully, 10th & Wolf, etc.) was rumored to be casted. Sad that he just passed away due to his heroin issues. And obviously will no longer get the chance to be involved (R.I.P.)..........Copy and paste the link below for the official info leak!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Less_Than_Zero
LTZ was in and of itself a good film. It was a total downer with fantastic performances from Robert Downey Jr., and James Spader. Jami Gertz was a perfect Blair (except for the dark hair). She was beautiful in a way words cannot describe, nieve, confused, dumb, and a little off. I didn't like McCarthy as Clay, but the way the movie was written (basically a "rock against drugs"/nancy regan "just say no" film) he played the part beautifully. Now, obviously Clay was a different guy in the book, but this movie was not the book in hardly any aspect. The film did alot of things correctly: the locations, sets, cars, clothes, clubs, lighting, photography, overall tone and editing were perfect, and did the book proud. However, the story, characters, and hair (the book constantly said blonde blonde and more blonde.....he he) were all wrong, and were a slap in the face of BEE. This book could be made into a movie, and, if they actually follow the book, I wouldn't consider it a remake at all, because the first movie was NOT LTZ. If QT does it, than I hope he hires BEE to write the screenplay. Who knows, if James SPader looses some weight (hello low carb), and RDJr gets off the coke, they might even be able to reprise their roles, because both were terrific in the original. I for one would love to see the book made into a movie.
The LTZ movie was totally off from the book. It was a lame movie with good acting on Andrew and Robert's parts, but I was pulling at couch cushions and gritting my teeth just so I wouldn't ruin it for the people watching it who haven't read the book. Whoever made that so-so movie should have called the it something else and given the characters different names. The fact that a few details from the book made it into the movie ticked me off even more! Robert Downey Jr. may have done a good job as a cokehead, but who in Hollywood hasn't done coke? Gimme a break! To me, it's horrible that he almost ruined his life being involved in such a bad movie. The music was terrible, the scenes seemed alright, but the dialogue was just thrown together and the feeling was way off. Clay didn't do a line in the whole movie! They made him seem like a goody two shoes. Although, I gotta admit, it did provide some closure for me when he told off RIP... THAT the book didn't do for me. That was a pretty good scene, he was intense and assertive. In the book, Clay was weak because he couldn't believe what he was seeing... but, he never got up on his feet to do anything about it. He didn't care... and, I think that is the point in the book. I really hope QT is an Bret Easton Ellis fan, and I hope he gets it right... if the rumors are true.
I really loved the movie (and the book is one of my all time faves). However Andrew McCarthy and Jami Gertz were all wrong for the roles of Clay & Blair.
Not sure how i feel about a remake. Sometimes I dont think BEE's books translate well onto film. And yes I do like Rules of Attraction and think the film version of American Psycho is ok.
It would be difficult to recreate the 80's The original has that atmosphere about it because it was made at that time I really like Downey Mc Carthy and Spader Tarantino is overrated as a Director Just because he is making it doesn't mean it will be better but we can always hope
I want to see a faithful adaptation of Less Than Zero, and this movie was not it. This movie takes the book and twists it around into something it never was: an anti-drug story. I don't care who does it, just as long as it's done right.
I'm sure Quentin Tarantino will use his genius and give us a unique and entertaining take on the novel. BTW, I'm a fan of the original version. It was really emotionally wrenching. I hope it finds an audience.
