Why so much hate?

It’s endlessly rewatchable. Great locations, memorable characters, inventive set pieces and a haunting score. You get a warm feeling when you see it in the tv guide.

Not bullshitting. It’s stood the test of time, combining elements of family drama and aquatic thriller to create something unique in the history of film. It may not be as polished as the original but that’s part of its charm.

The movie isn't as bad as many make it out to be. The acting is decent and it plays straight. It isn't cheesy or lowbrow entertainment. It just seems like it was made by amateurs who did the best job they could with limited ability.

reply

Yup, its a lot better than a couple of other films from 1987 like Predator and Lethal Weapon

reply

You're comparing apples to oranges. Predator and Lethal Weapon are great action films, but how do you compare action films to serious dramas like Jaws the Revenge? As good as both films you mentioned are, they lack the nuance and thought-provoking elements of a serious drama, which is why any of the greatest action films will always fall short when compared to the best "serious" films, though I dislike that word used in conjunction with film.

reply

yes it is perfect examples of what you call 'good bad movie'

it can be enjoy as cheesy b film

but if you treat it as watching good film, like say if you compare it to spielberg's jaws 1, then it is not great film

if you watch it as cheesy film then it is fine. michael cane and lance guest are good actor.
