I understand that he was worried about his mother and had to focus on his own family, but I never saw any form of grieving on Michael's part. I don't think they had a falling out over the years? What gives Mike? That is your baby brother and only sibling!

Guest's version of Mike Brody was interesting, he chose the arrogance route. So it wasn't too strange to me the way he reacted to Sean's death.
This was the guy afterall who chose to hide the fact Bruce 4 was slinking around nearby. He'd be on the sofa for years after the banana boat incident lol.
What I didn't get was the autopsy report for Sean's remains? A piece of wood ripped his arm off?
^ I assume that because he was living far away from his brother, and didn't actually see his dead body later on, that even though they were brothers, there was still a bit of emotional distance. Maybe they hadn't seen one another in a while, and that early phone call with them on the phone seemed to suggest this.
Some people don't always show overt emotion at times like these, at least not out in the open, and I think Michael was trying to be strong for his mom who was a wreck. Michael running on the beach was his way of not showing emotion in front of Carla, and him talking about the *beep* piece of wood was him trying to cope with it, and finding the whole thing ridiculous.
Also, about the autopsy report, they all knew it was a shark, and Michael was just annoyed that Sean died while trying to move a stupid piece of wood.
Inexplicable as it may be, the 'run on the beach' is probably the best moment in the film. It's really nicely photographed and provokes a strong feeling os nostalgia for the old days of Amity.

The events in the Bahamas were supposed to be months after Sean's death. He has already been to the funeral and probably grieved plenty. He missed his brother but was moving on with his life. That's why he brought his mother there, to give her time away from the scene.
