What An Aweful Movie
I saw this in the theater in 87 when it came out. I lost about half my braincells when it was over. Why is it on DVD?

shareYou lose
shareThis movie gives me great memories of my childhood.
shareThis movie gives me nightmares.
"Jules, you give that ****in' nimrod $1500, and I'll shoot him on general principle."
i love this movie! it takes me back to my childhood.
shareI think anyone calling it awful did not grow up in the 80's....it is a part of my childhood. They cant take that away from us....
shareI grew up with this movie. I think the movie is great. Great memories....the GPK thing was awesome.

agreed.......i used to love this movie, and i still have the VHS of it,....
i guess, to "get it", you just had to be there......
This movie was good! Too many people have WAY too high of expectations for movies nowadays!
I think this film is a GREAT example of something that you can always latch onto growing up, looking back on when you were young.
It's definitely a worthy film if you take it for what it is, and don't critique it like as if it's "The Lord of the Rings" or something else that's huge!
The cards were silly, the rest of the franchise was silly... THE MOVIE IS SILLY!!! I wouldn't have it any other way! :-)
P.S. - I'll be ripping the theme song "You Can Be a Garbage Pail Kid" (by Jimmy Scarlett & The Dimensions) from my downloaded DVD-R today if anyone is interested!!! :-D (I'll be making a thread on that when I do!)
"You can be a Garbage Pail Kid!"
Mike Sorge
Growing up in the 80's does not mean you were born in 1987. Being 7 when the movie came out made it good. It was the exact age kids were collecting the cards.
shareMy friend and I are convinced that this movie wasn't made on earth. I think it was made on one of the moons of neptune or something. Or in hell
shareI LOVE that movie. I might have been 7 when it came out but im 25 now and I still love it
get got good

I remember when I was a kid, my sister would rent this infernal piece of rubbish like once a week and make me sit through it, time and time, over and over again.
Huh? You loved it then but now it's horrible?
Anyway. This movie looks like something I would avoid. I think the stuff now is a lot better. I've always despised disgusting jokes, even when I was little when there was one in a movie I'd turn it off, feeling sick.
No quote is good enough for MY signature.
You know, I remember seeing this as a child and feeling profoundly disappointed by it. The Garbage Pail Kids I knew performed vivisections on themselves, unzipped their faces, passed Easter eggs like kidney stones and cannibalized each other. They most certainly did NOT skip about singing songs about being able to accomplish anything by working together.
oh I grew up in the 80's and I still like some movies that most people would diss. But this movie is just jesus christ it's so unbelievably bad. I think I entered another dimension while watching it. I'm convinced whoever made it was extremely high on coke

Yes, the movie is bad, cheesy, mean spirited, vile, but underneath all that slime there is a charm that you will never find in movies again after this decade. If you like bad movies, I think this is pretty good.
shareWell, this AWFUL movie is called THE GARBAGE PAIL KIDS MOVIE. To see it, you either had to have had knowledge of what you were getting into, or been blind and not read the title. What did you expect? But I'll give you this...nothing. I love this f'in movie, but everyone is entitled to their opinion - but seriously, would you go see THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and then be pissed because it was violent? The name tells you kind of what you're getting into. Unless you lived under a rock in the 80's and had no idea what GPK was. I always thought they shold have made a doom movie about the DINOSAURS ATTACK cards they had in the 80's (TOPPS). That would've been killer. Nupital Nightmare.

man, purepagoda and rolandjordaan's commentaries/posts are hilarious... you guys had me crying laughing while reading your reviews. And having grown up in the 80s, a collector of most of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th series of Garbage Pail Kids cards when i was probably about 11 or 12 I remember anxiously looking forward to seeing this film. I remember seeing one commercial on tv and then never heard about it again... I finally got a chance to see it recently, and it turns out i wasn't missing anything after all... sort of like a deranged teenage mutant/howard the duck/goonies type kid film without the truly vile/adult humor that made a film like Meet the Feebles enjoyable. Its the sort of film you just cringe along with while you feel embarassed for the actors for playing in a film that see itself as a commercially viable project.
shareI was 6 when this was released and loved it. I saw it at the cinema and it suited my generation of kids who were into disgusting characters and getting mucky and generally things that do not happen nowadays.
I then rented it on video all the time when it was released and my parents hated it, but again I loved it and so did my older brothers. We all collected the cards and gum, so it was part of the 80's childhood I will remember fondly.
I am sure now if I saw it I would think it was crass, gross and stupid, but It's called the Garbage Pail Kids, so what do you expect> It's not an Oscar academy awards movie, it's just some stupid no brainmer film that I loved and will always remember!
I thought it was a great film (of course, it helped that I was a child of the 80s) and for those people who think this movie was just a gimmick to sell their product... of course it was! But then again, so were hundreds of other movies that came out in the 80s including:
Masters of the Universe
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Wizard
The Care Bears Movie
G.I. Joe the Movie
Transformers the Movie
Jem the Movie
The list goes on...
