sharePart of Glenn Close' appeal in this film is her stark contrast to the wife. Alex is an aggressive cougar, nasty and slutty, using that to overcome her less attractive face. I don't find Alex ugly, but definitely not traditionally pretty either. If you want to label that a butterface that's on you. Personally I wanted to smash Alex with the same animalistic savagery that Michael Douglas did, I found Glenn Close incredibly sexy in this film.

Maybe the big, curly blonde hair and red lipstick makes a major difference.
