Lizzy Caplan to lead Paramount+'s Fatal Attraction TV adaptation

Caplan will star in an updated remake of Adrian Lyne's 1987 erotic psychological thriller starring Michael Douglas and Glenn Close. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "the new Fatal Attraction is described as a deep-dive reimagining of the psychosexual thriller and explore themes including marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes toward strong women, personality disorders and coercive control. Caplan will take on the role of Alex — previously portrayed by Glenn Close in the movie — who likewise becomes obsessed with her lover after a brief affair." Physical and Dear John executive producer Alexandra Cunningham will serve as writer and showrunner of the revival, which she co-created with Dirty John colleague Kevin J. Hynes, who will serve as executive producer. Fatal Attraction is among a number of Paramount Studios movie titles that have been earmarked for TV adaptations. Nicole Clemens, president of original scripted series at Paramount, says of the series: "Alexandra brings an incredibly strong and nuanced point of view to a story that became a cultural phenomenon but has thus far only been told from the male gaze,” said Nicole Clemens, president of original scripted series at Paramount+. “Partnered with Kevin, they will bring the next explosive chapter of this story to a new generation with a balanced eye to the complexities of the human psyche.”

LOL, got it. So the obsessed, psychotic, murderous villain is now going to be the sympathetic character because she's a woman. And the normal, well-adjusted but flawed family-man character who made the mistake of cheating on his wife once out of weakness, is now going to be the real villain because he is a man. God forbid there could EVER be a female villain who is just accepted as evil, and as a villain, and who isn't inevitably "reimagined" as a victim to a man who wronged her.

I'll pass. I think Glenn Close played one of the best, scariest villains of all time, and I don't want to reimagine the character as anything weaker or lesser.

With Me Too movement today, it has gotten much more worse. Movies like Disclosure would never get passed today because apparently a woman can't do shit like harrasment, false accusations against men, and violence. It would be really sad if they made it where Dan treats Alex like complete shit, provoking her obsessing and blaming him for her unstable behavior. Alex was just fooling herself in the original, while Dan did nothing wrong to her (save for not owing up to the child he gave her)

This is a really bad idea. No offense to Lizzy Caplan but she isn't in Glenn Close's league in terms of acting chops

The story was already almost perfectly told, Douglas and Close are so good together, we've already seen the outcome that you get when you tell this story with B-listers: Swimfan
