How come nobody knows about this movie?

It kills me that most young people would know more about the movie 'can't hardly wait' than this masterpiece! Same concept but, one is the original, one is a copy.

I agree.. it seems as though if you didn't see this around the time of it's release, you'd never know of it.
For example, here in Australia they'll put other 80s classics on TV like Back to the Future or Ferris Bueller, but to my knowledge CBML has never aired on tv and to me it's one of the best 80s movies.

They used to show it on TV in the U.S. a lot for years. I think it has been a few years now since it's been on main free channels (I did see it stuck on one of the digital sub channels a few times over the last few years, but those sub-main channels probably don't get a lot of viewers, heck a lot of people don't even seem to know over the air broadcasting exists these days).

Did we watch two different movies? Can't Hardly Wait isn't even close to being the same concept.

Let me rephrase that: what I meant is the concepts were similar in that both movies had involved the school geek or underdog coming out ahead by the end of the movie. Wasn't that nerdy guy on stage by the end of the movie singing paradise city with all the girls screaming? Didn't the Ronald aka 'donald' win the girl at the end of movie, also. Though, the nerd in can't hardly wait had more of a Cinderella story then Ronald did. Both movies also revolved around high school status in terms of popularity. Both movies also start with 'can't!'

I know right ? This is my all time favorite movie !!! (im 30 so I was very young when it came out) But I actually stumbled upon it on TBS once and then while visiting my grandparents found it in my aunts movie collection!! I LOVE IT

When Patrick Dempsey was my aunt's crush at the time Patrick Dempsey also became my crush too and after seeing him in Disney's Enchanted I started watching Grey's Anatomy just to see Patrick on it. I didn't know Patrick Dempsey was in Can't Buy Me Love until my mom rented it for me for my birthday and I was amazed at how cute he was and to put it simple I didn't know Patrick Dempsey got his career started with this movie until my aunt told me about it. And so it was the very first Patrick Dempsey movie I got. I believe there is a remake of Can't Buy Me Love titled Love Don't Cost A Thing with singer Christina Milian in the Amanda Peterson role but this is the best teen movie that's hardly ever shown anymore on TV and with the tragic death of Amanda Peterson this movie should become popular again

I am in my mid 40's and LOVED this movie when I was a teenager.
I am gonna have to find it and give it a watch sometime soon......
