Swayze not authentic.

He is too articulate to portray a hockey player. Lowe was real good though, I believed it...

reply

Pretty boy Lowe was authentic but Swayze wasn't? I beg to differ.

reply

I know hockey players real well. Swayze plays Derek Sutton much too well spoken. Lowe's delivery is typical of the average hockey player...

reply

I liked Sutton, though. Wanted him to kick Racki's sorry ass.

reply

You had to like Sutton. Guy scores over 90 goals in Junior A. He would have been a solid if not spectacular NHLer. A Joe Sakic type if I ever saw one...

reply

Maybe Sutton read books on the side or something. He wasn't your typical player. Who eats rose heads before a game???

HOW COOL WAS HIS APARTMENT?????

Anyway, he was grounded - "I'm never gonna be a doctor or a laywer..."

Remember, he was quick witted too. I like how when Murray told the team that Gordie's bonus was a team jacket, Sutton said: "lousy agent."

Swayze was pushing 34 years old at the time that this movie was filmed which is more than a little old for a junior hockey player.

reply

I played hockey AND got a college education out of it..... I must be missing your point.

reply

The trouble with Swayze's character is he can't make his mind up what he's supposed to be. He starts off as some kind of bullying Jock, then turns into the team clown, then the shoulder and sage for Youngblood, then the teary victim.

So you're complaining that he was a multidimensional character rather than a one dimensional stereotype.

To Love and win is the best thing. To Love and lose, the next best.

Yes I am, dammit.

"Kunta Kinte... yabba dabba dabba doo"

Patrick Swayze isn't convincing as anything other than a dancer, so I fail to see why his being articulate is relevant at all.

reply

Gotta love random generalizations further backed up by detailed and thoughtful comments suchs as "I know hockey players real well."

If you did any sort of study on NCAA D1 sports programs, the ice hockey teams generally come out in the top 5 programs schoolwide in terms of their average GPA. They are normally trailing sports such as fencing, tennis, and golf.

SWAYZE WAS PERFECT IN HIS ROLE.

Lowe was hysterical. They should have taught him how to skate before they made this movie. Seriously, it killed the entire movie for me. Lowe's god awful skating ability, no matter how often they showed him skating in slow motion it couldn't hide the fact he can't skate.
