Why not make it a trilogy like LOTR?

I have a dream to see Earth's Children books (at least the first three) made into films with the quality and effects of LOTR. Imagine the Neanderthals, the mammoths, the cave bears and the religious visions of the Clan made with modern technique - and the plot writte by real good script writers! Peter Jackson could do it. Or somebody should. I would love to see Ayla learning to speak, making love with Jondalar (filmed from a perspective of a woman's pleasure...), hunting, riding, playing with a cave lion.... wouldn't you? Who do you imagine in playing the main parts - Ayla, (Clan people could be done with computer), Jondalar, Thonolan, Talut, Nezzie, Deegie, Ranec...? Please share your ideas.

i would do anything to see the books but think about it the graphics wouldn't be that hard but then we have whinny which is a form of an extict horse, wolf, and baby not to mention some of the animals decribed there are kind of hard to make... the bison hunt in the mammoth hunters alone would b real dificult and then the hardest thing of all there are like 7 diffrent languages that need to be made up...and then thers the fact that like half the books are just ayla and jonde' sharing "pleasures"....

I wouldn't use any existing actors or actresses for this movie. We already have in mind the roles they were famous for and the clan of the cave bears is sumtin totally diff.Wat we need is new young talent. For example wen anyone says anytin abt Daniel Radcliffe the first thing tht comes to our mind is Harry Potter.New talent.

I'd love to see a trilogy or maybe a television mini-series, but unfortunately, Mrs. Auel was so upset by the writing of CotCB that she will not allow another of her books to be made into a movie.

That's a shame, really. It isn't the acting or the filmography that blows. The acting is, in fact, superb. What bites is the departure from basic things as Mrs. Auel wrote it. Things in the movie wouldn't have happened, couldn't have happened, if the screenwriters had been truer to the story. I'm talking about things like the Neanderthals smiling and laughing, when the book says they couldn't. Well, I'll cut this off, because I haven't posted a review yet and I want to save what I have to say for that.

I have loved these books since the day I accidentally stumbled on "The Valley of Horses" while looking for books on horses (I was 12, so sue me). As much as I would love to have a movie based on any of the books, I do not think one could ever do them justice. I had no idea they had made a Clan of the Cave Bear movie and I plan on watching it as soon as I can get my hands on it but to be honest, I am afraid that it will slightly tarnish anything I had ever pictured in my mind. Besides the fact that the entire first book is done without talking and even half the second book as well, I don't think it could ever be translated to film in the beautiful way Auel has written it. The Clan's signing is supposed to be as mesmorizing as watching a dancer on stage and I don't think anyone could ever translate that feeling in a movie. Every character in these books are unique in their own way, especially Ayla and by putting any famous face to them even if they were slightly famous, I think would completely ruin these characters. In addition, I think what makes Ayla such an amazing character is her age. Raped at age 10, pregnant at age 11 and living alone at age 14, using anyone not even close to these ages would make it seem almost less admirable. The later books would make it much easier to use someone in their 20's but i'm still so wary of the whole thing. I know this is just my opinion buts its nice to know there are other people who are obsessed as I am. I don't know any other people my age (I'm 23) who have never even heard of these books. To the woman who named her daughter Ayla, you are not alone. It is def. my favorite name and I plan on using it whether I have a daughter or just a female dog in the future.

Before I end this posting, has anyone seriously sat down and tried to figure exactly where the characters would be living in modern times based on the maps Auel gives? It's pretty easy to see that the Zelandonii are smack dab in the middle of France which makes some sense considering the way Jondalar is described but everyone else is a bit of a mystery. To the best of my observation, it seems that Ayla and the Mamutoi were in what all used to be Russia but has since split in a ton of smaller countries and the others could be from germany to romania but since the earth has changed since that time, its much harder that simply matching the maps. Anyway, just a thought.
