REMAKE COMING!!!

Dry County Entertainment has picked up the remake rights to the 80's horror cult title "Chopping Mall" says Variety.

The Roger Corman-produced original centered around a group of teenagers who become trapped in a shopping mall with killer robots.

The new version will retain the basic concept of young people trapped in a mall, the robots however will be exchanged for something darker and more supernatural.

Robert Hall and Kevin Bocarde will produce and write with Hall directing. Hall is also coming on to direct, with shooting to begin in the Spring.

DON'T GO SUPERNATURAL, JUST UPDATE THE ROBOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No robots. Probably means ghost demons from hell or something.

yeah definitely no supernatural elements, not needed!

and they should call it "Killbots" like the original intended title for the original film

"Damn I'm Turning Human Again, If I Don't Get Outta This Body Soon I'm Screwed!"

reply

That would work for me if they called it Killbots.

Like vampires, yeah...then we change the mall to a high school...that'll put asses in seats!

Seriously, when's the last time you saw a remake of anything that didn't suck balls?

reply

im glad to see fellow chopping mall fans agree.

Bring on the KILLBOTS!!!!!!!!!
you can even have them in the retro look just updated

Didn't the kill bots also make one-liners as well.
like "thank you for shopping"

they are going to kill the fun of the original

"teenagers stalked by killer robots" the movie sells it-self

I am not a very big fan of remakes at all to be honest with you about it.

Can't be better then the original. No remake please. I can imagine how it would be made. Instead of Killbots it will be Vampires because of the Vampire craze. Vampires with electrified arrows because of the seemingly going back to bows in arrows in movies these days. And it won't be some ordinary mall. It will be a mall with a amusement park in it. And half of the movie would be about the 2 leads who are in love and devastatingly beautiful and handsome, but can't act. Everything has to be bigger and so called better. But one of the reason I liked the movie so much because it was sort of cheesy and made with a low budget.

reply

I hope that they do not remake this because I agree with you that the original is perfect the way it is. Before jumping to conclusions how do you know that they would be using vampires in the film? They could be using a updated version of killbots instead in the film. That is why I wish that Hollywood or these film companies would give up the idea of remaking the film. I can understand if the film is outdated and is no longer able to watch and calls for a remake then do it you know.

because that is the in thing in movies today.

Well the film companies need to realize that remakes just does not do it! They fail and bomb! If I make it in the film industry and decide to make a remake I will do the original justice by watching the original taking notes and from that make the remake that way. If I can get away with changing something minor I will do that. Not make major changes like they do in the remakes like for example, changing the main character into a woman or into the male being the lead role. The other point which I include Will Smith in this because he touched a perfect film that did not need to be changed and that is The Karate Kid. You do not switch the main character to another ethnic group. Like Walking Tall and having Dwayne Johnson play a true life Vietnam veteran who came home from Vietnam and found his home town in a mess. He took it upon himself to take law into his own hands.

Chopping Mall with no robots? So they're just making a brand new film and calling it a "remake"? . Just make a new movie set in a mall.

reply

They will wind up screwing this classic up. That is why I do not care for remakes.

I just wrote my first movie script called THE POSSESSION OF INNOCENCE. I need help to raise money to get it made. You can go to www.Crowdit.com under the title of the movie THE POSSESSION OF INNOCENCE. You can donate a $1 to $100. Trying to get this movie made and thank you for your help!

That dosen't make much sense, i'll still probably end up seeing it though.

No killbots!? No way!!!

reply

Is this gonna be a straight to dvd remake like April Fools Day, and Night of the Demons or what?

reply

Sounds pretty boring if you ask me. I'd rather see Wynorski do one of his skin-flicks parodies...maybe call it "Chopping Balls." No, wait...scratch that...

reply

Doesn't sound too promising. This film was no "Citizen Kane" but it has a certain charm and was decently acted. Nick Segal's character reminded me a little bit of Roger from "DOTD", with his increasing recklessness that cost him. And the cameos by Paul Bartel, Mary Woronov, Dick Miller, and Gerrit Graham were a nice touch.

I love to love my Lisa.

I say boo unless the robots somehow become supernaturally evil.
