So did Frank Booth also have a traumatic past?

Not that it at all excuses him whatsoever, he was a nasty evil villain period and full stop.

But I have read review that stated that him looking in admiration when Dean Stockwell's character lip synced "In Dreams" by Roy Orbison may have suggested that but...

Is that reviewer sure, for instance, that Booth wasn't simply ADMIRING A SONG and AMAZED by that man's PERFORMANCE of it, maybe Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper) is very passionate about music as well?

How can he tell by that look in awe during a song and a performance that he seemed to derive enjoyment out of that Frank Booth simply had some traumatic experience in the past?

And that it simply wasn't a case of a SONG having an emotional effect on him and making him cry in the process or almost feeling like that?
