Height of Sean Penn's good looks

Sean Penn looked the best in this film. I consider it the height of his best appearance. His brother, Chris, had his best point a year prior during the filming of Footloose.

Sean also looked great in Racing with the Moon (84.) Fast forward to 1990's State of Grace and he looks different. Not drastically but he was a heavy cigarette smoker and cigarettes tend to age people quicker than non-smokers.

Anyone agree with me that this film is the pinnacle of Sean Penn hotness?

I have never seen this film, shameful since I'm an 80's girl. I was inspired to look it up on IMDB when it was featured in the "Live to Tell" video on VH1's 80's block this morning. Anyway.....when they were showing clips of Penn, I was surprised to notice he was looking pretty hot! Or maybe it's the "tortured soul" character. But now I need to see the movie:)

Agreed! What a hottie. So is Keifer Sutherland.

Even at this early stage? I thought Kiefer needed a little more maturing.

I'm a straight guy so I won't comment on his attractiveness; however, I do have an opinion on his looks because I just watched two of his movies.

I watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty last night before I went to sleep and I woke up to see At Close Range was on. I've never even heard of ACR, but I initially locked on it cuz of how different Sean Penn looks. I kept thinking, damn, he used to look a lot different. In TSLOWM he doesn't look like the same guy. I know he's much older, but if I compared the two, I would say they might be brothers--not the same person though.

Anyway, I'm glad I stumbled on this movie. It was excellent! Christopher Walken gave as good as of a performance as I've ever seen. I can't believe I've never heard of it before. Good stuff.

Wrong. This Myst Be the Place. Hands down.

1000% agree. I was a youth but thought he was the hottest guy in Hollywood at the time. Also about that time he married Madonna they were on the cover of People magazine and he was pretty damn fine.

"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man."

the drinking heavy, smoking and fighting caught up to him.

To be honest I never thought Sean Penn was particularly good looking at all. Maybe even a bit on the ugly side. But he did have a certain hotness in his younger days in films such as this.
But he also has those sort of features you see on certain people, male or female, where you know that age won't be flattering for them. They need that youth factor to make it all work. That's Sean Penn.
So drinking, smoking, whatever...people are still going to age.
Some better than others.

He's not on the ugly side. He just is a lot more rough looking than the average Hollywood leading man.

Just because you're a straight guy doesn't mean you can't comment on a male's attractiveness. It doesn't compromise your heterosexuality.

Sean Penn looked ugly in this film as he does in life

^ That's a matter of opinion and guess what? Everyone's got one! I personally think he was very attractive in this. Sexy, even.

The only reason I watched this movie was because he looked so damn pretty in the trailer. SWOON!
