The problem with this movie is it destroyed the franchise while creating it. The xeno in Alien is clearly intelligent and a proper alien threat in the traditional sense. In all the other alien movies, because of this one, they're just bug monsters operating on instinct. It's not nearly as scary or interesting.

In my opinion, 'Aliens' is only slighter better than the last 2 movies in the franchise.
Vastly overrated (alongside 'T2')
The only decent sequel Cameron ever directed was 'Piranha 2'
