Watched it last night.....it hasn't aged well
I know it probably set the tone for action movies, but it seems a bit cheesy now.

shareWrong.

And I have a different opinion.
shareAnd you are entitled to your opinion. Instead of simply replying 'wrong', explain why you feel it has aged well. I mean, isn't that what discussions boards are about?
shareLast time I checked, the one making the statement is the one who must prove it. As the far-right thinker Chris Hickens said: 'That which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence'.
You gave no reason or evidence to support your statement, so saying 'wrong' is enough to dismiss it.

I mean yeah it had cheesy over-the-top characters, but what action movie doesn't? I don't feel like using the word aged to describe a movie's downfall is a reasonable way to criticize.
I think movie succeeds compared to other action films because of its atmosphere and its willingness to take its time. For example the fifteen minute countdown at the end of the movie is an actual 15 minutes in the movie.
This is coming from a guy who doesn't like this movie as much as the first movie.
I don't disagree. I just (personally ) feel it hasn't aged well. As for movies having cheesy over the top characters, I think aliens probably started the trend. It just (to me) feels dated, whereas Alien and Alien3 don't.
Aliens is a definite 80's movie (it even has yuppies). Because of this I feel this way. That's not to say I don't like it. I just don't like it as much as I used to.
Okay, it DOES have a bit of an 80s-vibe going on, particularly regarding Burke. So, in that sense, I'll buy that it is somewhat more dated than say Alien or Aliens. That stated, it is still an unbelievably good film.
shareDon't disagree about it being a good film.
shareis this all down to Burkes 80s shoulder pad suit jacket and hair style? I mean - his actions in the movie could just as easily happen today in "Taken [insert no]" , or "Bond xxxvii - die a bit more "
Thank you. I see burke as just another corp climber lawyer type that is a little more of a sociopath in that he exposed the colony to grave risk with out batting an eyelash.
shareThank christ we got Prometheus and Covenant to raise the bar though 🙀
shareI will *never* and I mean *never* grow tired at laughing at Prometheus.
I hated it when it came out but as a grand testament to the folly of man it is unparalleled.

Yes, too bad it's not just another mindless action movie, maybe then you'd understand it ;)

HAHAHAHAHA!
shareThis is still a great movie and i don't think its cheesy at all. Now if you want to see cheesy - watch the old Godzilla's and the Neverending Story.. Looks like a play...
shareYou take that back about Neverending story right now and we'll just pretend you never said that.
shareSeen them.
As for it being a great movie, I agree. I just (personally) feel it hasn't aged well. It's very 80's. now I know it was made in the 80's, but you can't say the same about Alien (70's) or Alien3 (90's). Those movies aren't stereotypical of those decades in my opinion.
But which bit exactly? You mentioned Burkes a yuppie , got anything else?
All of it.
no , really , what is 80s about any of it except Burke's hair?
Its set in the future ... with spaceships ..... thats not 80s
no ones got leg warmers on
no ones on roller skates
no one has a sony walkman
so what is it?
It is the whole feel of the movie. It seems a bit cheesy now. Funnily enough, I watched it again last night (going through an alien marathon again. Do it every now and then), and I got that same feeling. It's a bit like watching the Running Man or Raw deal. I don't feel the same watching Alien/Alien 3. I feel A:R tries to be like Aliens, but fails miserably.
sharethe one part of the movie that needs to be dubbed over is the reported cost of the Nostromo: $42M
that wouldn't pay for a urinal on such a ship at today's prices
Well they do say 'adjusted' dollars. I remember some years ago that Turkey adjusted its' currency. What used to be a 1000000 lira became 1 lira (or something like that. But yeah, see where you are coming from.
shareMaybe the dollar is 'squished' in the future. $1 equals $10, etc, lol.
