More misheard lines!

For some reason, I thought Apone was saying "All at the incinerators" back to Gorman. Now that i've learned he says "All after incinerators", I have to admit that line makes more sense.

Also, I wonder how many other people here misinterpreted Hicks as shouting "Marines, we are leaving!" when he in fact was shouting "Drake, we are leaving!"

Yea there has been a debate on the "Drake we are leaving" line before on here.
I always heard it as "Drake" but i'm sure somebody stated that on the original script or the subtitles or summat it actually says "Marines" but Biehn blew his line and Cameron kept it in, I can't really remember tho now tbh ,Where did you hear of it being "Marines"?

" No, we are not relations, sir"

reply

I always heard "Drake, we are leaving".

The two sound very different so I'd be surprised if it was Drake.

Yes, marines and Drake sound nothing alike, so I'm surprised so many people are hearing different things. I would swear it was marines and never thought it was anything else till I read it hear about drake.

reply

It also doesn't make sense that he would be saying it to Drake when Vasquez was also there.

Drake is right at the back and clearly so focussed on gunning things down (to the point where he doesn't even watch his ammo count and runs out unexpectedly), that he's not moving fast enough for Hicks's liking.
Hicks even picks Vasquez up and hoists her into the APC, because she's so bent on getting some trigger time in.

reply

I know but when Hicks says it, he is holding Hudson and shouting back to the other two.

Well, I just checked my Quadrillogy disc - He says "Drake" on the subs, too!!

He does say, "Let's go, Marines" a couple of times earlier, which is where I assume people are getting confused...

reply

Funny how Drake was bringing up the rear he even died doing so ,it was as if he was falling behind and had no choice other than to stick in that position he even ran out of ammo ensuring they wasn't attacked on the run, Maybe Hicks's line was a shortcut in military/human/emotional terms I/e Drake cover our ass/ we are leaving !

reply

Ok, so even though I have watched the movie literally 200 times, I watched the scene in question again. Never once had I heard "Drake, we are leaving" , and I'll be damned if that's not what I heard this time. Idk if it's like on the ghost hunter shows where they tell you what to hear and then you hear it.. But now I know why it's confusing. I heard Drake and not Marines. Crazy how the mind can play tricks on you, either way. So now, I can honestly say idk what Hicks says. I just wanted to share my experience, and even though I was 100% Marines earlier, I may have been converted. Or at least can see where the Drake side is coming from. This would be a good experiment. Take a group and divide them in 3. Tell a third to confirm it's Drake, take a third and tell them it's Marines and the other third have them to tell us what they hear. I'll bet the Drake and Marines group almost 100% confirm what they hear. I would be interested in what the other third said. I'm blown away how my mind can fool me, even when I know it's trying to be fooled.

For years I thought Hicks was yelling, "Where's Basky? Where's Basky?"

Another common one with a multi-page thread/argument about it.
The kicker for me is how many people misheard this, but never noticed that the monitor immediately after this shot actually shows Wierzbowski's name, just as it has all the way through the Drop...!!

I thought that Hicks was shouting "Where's Vasquey!" initially until I saw the film on the big screen around 1994. It was only when I could make out the names on the displays properly that I realised what he was actually saying.

I've always wondered about the shot that immediately follows when Biehn turns round and delivers that line. The camera whips round and just points at a flaming part of the set with no-one there. I guess it was meant to show that Wiersbowzki was standing next to Hicks one second and gone the next, as if taken by an alien. But it's still a little confusing.

Later on, it's only mentioned that Apone and Deitrich were alive and being cocooned. Frost got torched and went over the side of the gantry. Crowe got schwacked when Forst's ammo bag went up. So what actually did happen to Wiersbowski?

Not misheard lines, but a delivery that always made me laugh is when Hicks is trying to stop Vasquez from going after Drake.

Hicks: "Forget him, he's gone!"

Vasquez : "No he's...........not!"

And also when Deitrich shouts "Sarge!" when she finds the live colonist in the cocoons and Apone shouts back "What?!" in response. Like he's a harrased parent shouting back at the children in the back seat on a long drive.  Cameron admits that he knew less about the military than he thought he did back then.

I have always thought it was "marines, we are leaving" till I read this. I'll have to watch it yet again lol. One line for me I never understood was when Hudson told Apone "you'll get lip cancer smoking those" in the loading dock. I think that's what he says but could never understand what it was and that's what I have been told,
One other scene is when Newt and Ripley are escaping in the air ducts ahead of Hicks, Newt says "There is a ***** cut across the roof" I have idea what she said.

So what actually did happen to Wiersbowski?

Three marines look over the railing, down at Frost who now lies burning... Crowe is closest, Wierzbowski behind him (the one with a hand on his helmet, Hicks behind 'Ski.
Hicks shouts, "Come on" and drags 'Ski back from the rail. As 'Ski turns to move, the ammo blows and the three of them are thrown aside.

Cut to Gorman's shot in the APC, with the flatlining monitors. Hicks, likely just getting up from the floor, says over the comms, "Wierzbowski and Crowe are down".

So 'Ski was likely off to one side.
hicks goes to check on Crowe, but upon rolling him over finds a clearly dead body. You then hear yelling and Hicks turns to where 'Ski was, hence the line "Wierzbowski!!! Wierzbowski!!!".
Cut to 'Ski's monitor, showing him being moved around and then going to static.

So... 'Ski got blown across the room, then grabbed by an alien and most likely killed...

Lip/lymph cancer... either one works.
