Joan + Bernie slept together???

When Debbie (Demi Moore) returns from here first "date" with Danny (Rob Lowe) her roommate Joan (Elizabeth Perkins) says she has a huge guy in her bed. I think it is Bernie (Jim Belushi). At the first meeting of the all four of them at Mother's (Debbie & Dan's first real date) Joan has a disgusted look on her face when she is introduced to Bernie. I think it was Bernie who was in her bed the night before and she is so disgusted that he does not remember her she takes off. This was never really mentioned again in the movie other than Joan & Bernie's hatred of one another.

Anyone else agree or disagree?

Joan told Debbie to take a look at him in her room. If it was Bernie don't you think Debbie would have said something or mentioned it later on?
So i'm thinking it wasn't him.

i'm to lazy to find a cool signature, atm.

Thats a great point, she certainly would have if she had seen who he was. However, I still am convinced that Joan and Bernie did hook up near the end when they meet up at Mothers at closing time.

There was a scene filmed where, after they meet at "Mothers" (the scene of just the two of them at last call), they are shown getting out of a car together and zipping up. The Blu-ray has a discussion between the director & Rob Lowe and they discuss it.

one of my favorite movies I remember from the 80's...for the original poster..hell no, wouldn't make any sense...but the second to last time we see them together at Mother's with the failed toast...that look Joan gives Bernie definitely suggests they slept together...which would make sense for the reason Bernie greets her pleasantly in the last scene...

I always wondered about that during the years, and after seeing it during Encore's Big 80's Memorial i hit IMDB and its the first board discussion I see...hehe

Joan herself is shown with three different men during the course of the movie, I think she is a low self esteem loser at heart so it would only take a little bit of alcohol and a smile to tag her on any given night. So yeah, IMHO, Bernie hit that

I thought that it was Bernie in the bed at first, but when it wasn't mentioned again I changed my mind because I think that if it was Debbie would have reconized him and it would have been mentioned later on.
I wanted Bernie and Joan to get together in some way, but if they did I think it would have been used as a plotline. They disliked eachother from the first second they met, Joan thought he was a a-hole and Bernie thought she was a b*tch. If they slept together it would be a pretty big deal. Not to mention funny so if they did, why wasn't it used in the movie?

I really wanted Joan and Bernie to have sex and then try to convince themself that it was just a drunken mistake. I waited for most of the movie to see that happen so I was a bit disapointed when it didn't.

As above, I did think at first that Bernie was the 'big guy,' but when nothing was made of it by the time the scene ended, figured he wasnt. But then there are clues throughout that they did hook up at some point, just not then.

I would like to think that they never slept together but instead they were friend in-laws. They didnt want to see their best friend hurt by the other and gradually through the movie they grew to at least tolerate each other and respect the love that they had for their respective best friend.Though Bernie is going to try to sleep with Joan if given he chance he knows that if he does follow through with the deed she will not be going away because of the relationship that Danny and Debbie have together

reply

I think Bernie and Joan didn't really like each other but they were good friends.
