Your top 10 movies of the decade...

As the decade nears it's completion, what films do you consider to be your favorite? It was a question posed on At the Movies, and I thought I should start the debate here. My top ten, which are not really in any particular order:
10. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
9. Batman Begins
8. Wall-E
7. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring
6. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
5. Oldboy
4. the Lives of Others
3. No Country for Old Men
2. the Lord of the Rings trilogy
1. Hero

reply

Some of these may not necessarily be the best but simply ones I thoroughly enjoyed (in no particular order):

Blood Diamond
Hero
Lord of the Rings (trilogy)
Up
United 93
Black Hawk Down
Little Miss Sunshine
Memento
Spider-Man
Get Smart

reply

This is so hard to do...

10. The Dark Knight
9. Minority Report
8. Vanilla Sky
7. Big Fish
6. The Aviator
5. A Beautiful Mind
4. Snatch
3. Frost/Nixon
2. Anchorman (Think people will forget about this one when they pick their lists)
1. The Departed

Respectable? It was hard finding ten movies that i thought were worthy to be in a top 10. I'm sure I forgot a few, but i think the 90's had a lot more great movies.

It's pointless to be making these lists now, there is still 1 year 2 months left of this decade.

I assume they are going with the '00 definition for the decade, which would not include '10. (Would you include 1990 in the '80s?)

But yes, we still have 2 months, and those will include many of this year's Oscar contenders.

I think The Departed is a great movie. Its got action, suspense, and comedy. Its one of the most entertaining movies I've ever seen. I wasn't able to find a lot of movies that I loved in this decade because either a) the movies I saw didn't blow me away, although they were good (ex. No Country), or b) I haven't seen a lot of movies from this decade. I tend to watch older movies more often and miss out on the newer stuff. I also need to see a movie 2 or 3 times befre i really really like it.

Thanks. I actually think that The Departed is a pretty great crime film, though. Not Scorsese's best but I found it to be tremendously enjoyable.

I'm surprised I've been the only one to go with Blood Diamond and Up. I thought those were two excellent films.

My taste definitely leans more towards Scott Phillips’. I thought ‘Million Dollar Baby’ was a supremely overrated, clichéd, bloated, sentimental melodrama. While I loved ‘Eternal Sunshine’ when I initially saw it, my affection for the film has waned with each succeeding viewing.

1. Lost in Translation

I don't think we should be making lists until the damn decade ends. There are candidates, yes, but no definite list. I guess the best film I've seen this decade is United 93, which didn't go for cliches and seemed real. It made no statements and stayed in real time.
