I think I am ready for a Star Trek series to have Melmacians as one of the key alien races on the show.

This is a subplot that needs further writing. Also an interaction with Worf and Klingon food: "Raw worms? HA! You should try Kate's meatloaf!"

Well, if they can put ET in Star Wars, I imagine anything is possible.
