shareI was about to post a link that said it was happening. Now the site says the reboot is dead. Sorry
shareMaybe people just don't like puppet shows. I don't know. Though it doesn't help Donald Wright is the reason this show didn't last longer. He hated doing it and I doubt he's changed his mind now. I suppose they could do it without him but I'm not sure the other actors are willing to come back for it either.
shareI heard they plan on rebooting it.
shareIt was an unhappy, dysfunctional set. I saw a recent interview with Anne Schedeen, who played the mom Kate. The interviewer was a popular celebrity from Bulgaria and ALF was the very first American TV show to be shown on Bulgarian national TV) and Anne just turned the whole interview ugly by complaining about the production of the show. Keep in mind, the whole intent of the interview was to bring happiness and joy to one of the many countries that enjoyed ALF so much in syndication.
Anyway, at one time she blurted out "I'm an actress" and then she admitted she would not go on the Tonight Show(can you imagine?) to promote the show. Now, call me crazy but if you're on a hit NBC TV Comedy and for whatever reason you decide you won't promote it in front of 15 million viewers then yes, you will get cancelled and NEVER play the role again, which is EXACTLY what happened.
Remember, if the show would have got renewed for a 5th season they weren't going to bring any of the cast back except for ALF.
It is really a shame that the cast were so unhappy. Then again, Fusco could have been less of a maniac and maybe listened to other people's concerns.
shareYep, Fusco was the creator, producer, director, etc. It was an extremely tough show to produce and he did admit they ran out of ideas since most scenes had to be filmed in the house due to the raised floor. At least everybody stayed until the very end, no contract holdouts that I'm aware of. Sad that Max Wright struggled so much with addiction, it really ruined his career.
shareAnd now, Max is gone. :(
Max hung in there a long time. He first got diagnosed with cancer about 25 years ago. He was seen in recent years smoking on his balcony. His wife died a couple of years ago but she stayed married to him through all his troubles. I've struggled with addiction, my brother died of addiction, I lost my best friend to addiction. Many others I've known are gone or lost.
I guess what I'm saying is I think I understand what Max was going through. He got caught up in drinking/drugging which caused him to lose control of his life and career, getting caught up in one of the most painful tabloid scandal ever in the U.S. The last 15 years might have been sober, sober and full of embarrassment and regrets. Most people who party that hard don't get close to living to 75 like Max did.
Yeah, because the Roseanne revival worked so well.
shareIt actually worked amazingly well, all things considered. It was a huge hit before Roseanne fucked it up, and continues to be a reasonable hit without her. Still the third highest rating sitcom on TV and renewed for another year.
That said, Alf needs to stay in the late 80s where it belongs.
The salient phrase is, “before rosanne fucked it up.”
“Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how’d you enjoy the play?”
do you think they might make a female alf ?
shareWell, they're bringing back Who's the Boss, so anything's possible.
