My favorite line

What set this movie apart for me watching it in the theaters in 1985, was how intelligent the scripting was. Kids in college are a bit crazy, but they are also smart, and show some growth in character for all the money invested. When Cusack's Gibb is throwing a football around out on the campus lawn, and he says he's a player from Grambling, his buddy says something like "isn't Grambling all black?" and he says "So what?" That's right, so what? They didn't have to throw that in there, but I'm glad they did. Since this closely mirrors one of the writer's real experiences it's cool to think that exchange may really have taken place.

As far as one liners go, one of my favorites is when Allison is trying to stretch the budget, restricting when they can next eat, she says as though it's such great news: "after 1,000 miles, we can have a snack", and Gibb says "Oh goodie, Cheetos in Albuquerque, I can hardly wait!" The way he says that cracks me up.

...the scene in the bar where the guys all start singing "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..."

This is one of my favorite holiday films, along with Trading Places, Die Hard, and When Harry Met Sally. '80s gold.

"How could you lose your schedule book??? That's the most important thing in your life, that stupid little book....you wouldn't even remember your name without it!!"

Ditto to some posters, like this better than Say Anything, second favourite Rob Reiner film, and full of wonderful quotes!!!

The whole credit card scene in the pouring rain of course.

Whenever I hear the song 'Feelings', I see John Cusack on the hood of the car and then sitting on the road in his effort to stop Tim Robbins from abandoning them...

'Whaddya think, nine months?'
'More like 15' - takes out some scarves...I use that line for beer belly males actually...;-)

The names Elliot and Nick have had those meanings for me since watching for the first time.

'Consider outer space...'

'Gib, can you hear that? Those are the waves beckoning you 'Gib' Gib' come to California!''

'Perseus, good man!' ^^

'Did I hurt you?' - 'No.' - bang goes the foot!

By far the coolest scene:

A sure thing, no questions asked,
no strings attached...
No guilt involved.
A sure thing.
My whole life, I never had a sure thing.
Probably never meet her anyway.
She's gonna be gone in 24 hours.
You pay for the traffic tickets,
I'll get you in the saddle.

The liquid soap bit though.. Great line? Don't think so.
