What was the training for Apollo vs Drago?

Seriously did Apollo and those who trained him (Rocky, Duke, and Paulie) think the fight with Drago was just a goofy exhibition? You could tell Apollo did not train seriously like he did for the rematch vs Rocky (even the first fight with Rocky yes he was surprised by how serious Rocky was but he still took some serious training in it). The best shape of his life sentence was obviously over cockiness. Maybe Apollo felt that because he was not sore like he was five years before when he consistently fought. He forgot that life shape and boxing shape are different.

Duke even yells "What are you guys doing its just an exhibition" after RD 1. If Apollo took fight seriously and even got scout tape on Drago could he have won or at least gone the distance with him?

A person being weak insults others. Any insults at me will put that user on ignore---IMDB Signature.

I don't think Rocky IV tried to think too deep. But retrospective is fun. Apollo's hubris is what killed him. He didn't take Drago seriously. He thought at 43 (ish), he could whip the Russian in an exhibition.

Simply, it was a very effective ploy to make Drago the villain other than just being Russian. If we want to have fun, we can take it as a lesson from the 80s, it takes more than waving the red, white, and blue to righteousness, but blood, sweat, and tears.

Doesn't matter how Apollo trained anyway. Apollo didn't know that Drago was really pissed about him running his mouth and was bent on shutting it for good. By the time he found out, it was too late.

I just watched IV for the first time last night and it was very clear, Apollo came right out and said it in plain English. He thought since Drago had literally zero experience, he would be "clumsy" and not know how to move as a boxer and would have no chance of winning versus a very experienced ex-champion such as himself, even without recent training.

reply

How is it possible last night was the first time you watched this?

I was just never interested. I was 7 when the first Rocky movie was in theaters and a huge hit, and I couldn't have cared less. I was all about fantasy and sci-fi, never saw the appeal in boxing or sports in general. I finally saw Rocky many many years ago, thought it was OK, never bothered with the sequels. I bought the blu-ray box set ages ago but it just sat collecting dust in my backlog. Last week Carl Weathers passed away and I decided it was finally time. I'm loving them now, these are fucking great movies.

I'm sorry you had a depressed childhood but glad you finally got around to watching these movies as an adult

I'm glad you're an autistic dipshit because it's amusing.

reply

AUTISM ISN'T A PUTDOWN OR A JOKE...THAT WAS UNCOOL.

reply

So are you in fact Kowalski, Moonglum AND millsey? Anyone else?

reply

I AM ONLY KOWALSKI...I AM ALSO ON THE AUTISTIC SPECTRUM AND KNOW MANY OTHERS WHO ARE AS WELL.

reply

Autistic people are usually pretty cool in person. On the internet they're annoying as fuck. Especially when they try using obvious things like caps lock to create what they think is an "identity" that distinguishes them from others. Particularly their alt accounts, for example.

reply

I DON'T HAVE ANY ALT ACCOUNTS...HONESTLY.

reply

No, thats all of them

reply

What does that mean?

Apollo approached it like a show and Drago saw it as a serious match especially after Apollo talk crap about him. The size difference between them in itself should have told Apollo he had no chance, let alone their age difference.

It took someone like Rocky who blocks punches with their face to tire out their opponent to beat him.
