ABSOLUTELY...FRED WARD...80'S AWESOMENESS.

If you like '80s action movies, yeah it's a good way to kill 100 minutes. Not as spectacular as the cult following would suggest. But it has its strengths. Namely the friendship between Fred Ward and Joel Grey is solid. Plus the big fight scene on the Statue of Liberty is a legit cool action scene. But I can kind of see why it flopped. The villains are not that interesting and even the female character seems like an afterthought.

ONE OF ME AND MY DAD'S FAVORITE MOVIES

I'm a big fan. It's fun, it's goofy, it's quotable, it's an entertaining way to pass some time.

Don't go in looking for masterpiece theatre, but if you know what it is ('80s action fun!) and that's your bag, you'll dig it.

As with many such adaptations: if you're a fan of the source material, you'll ABHOR it. If not, you may have a good couple hours of lowbrow amusement. YMMV.

For what it's worth, the source material ("Destroyer" series, by Sapir & Murphy) is INFINITELY better.

I saw this in the cinema when it came out. Weirdly I'd picked up one of the books (bargain basket, on a whim) about a year before and enjoyed it. I enjoyed the film too.
