yes, it was a totally gratuitous and senseless act of violence. It's almost as if she wanted not just revenge but to debase and degrade the Ichimonji Clan as much as possible before she died.

Lady Kaede was definitely a psycho and I certainly don't condone any of her actions. But considering the evil perpetrated against her own family, I can somewhat understand her twisted sense of justice toward the Ichimonjis.
