Anyone else think this is a better movie than Porkys?
In my opinion, this is the best sex comedy set in the 1950s.

shareAgreed! I always think of the two movies as bookends.Porky's was a bawdy comedy, more laughs and sex and testosterone. Mischief was a sweeter movie, with a better soundtrack and a more authentic feel of the period it was set in, the 50's. That said, they were both "buddy" films. Pork's went from being about the guys getting laid to them getting Porky for beating up their friend Mickey. Mischief has a heart, it's funny and sentimental and "nice". My favorite teen movie from the 80s(class of 87 here!)
shareWell, I love both films, but would place Mischief above Porky's primarily because Mischief shows that you don't have to be from Florida to have fun!
shareThey're both terrible movies.
shareBetter than 95% of he crap movies coming out today. And many regarded as classics like American Graffiti and Grease, which were mediocre at best.
shareI would say Mischief and Porky's were both crappy films in their day and haven't improved with age. There's a reason why nobody remembers this film outside of Preston's nude scene (which isn't even that sexy considering the film uses her as the butt of the situation).
Comparing American Graffiti (which was a great film with a good story and characters) to Mischief and Porky's is like comparing The Godfather to Corky Romano.
American Graffiti was racist like many George Lucas films (the Hispanic characters). It's not memorable at all. Lucas is a hack in general. I remembered several scenes in mischief but I only saw part of it on TV so it was hard to identify it later. Lucas can't write or direct and he's sappy with racist stereotypes, like "step and fetch it" character Jar Jar Binks and the obvious Asian mocking "trade viceroys." They make Charlie Chan & the Peter Sellers Asian or Mickey Rooney ("Breakfast at Tiffany's") seem respectful / deep by comparison.
shareWhile Jar-Jar (and the entire Phantom Menace film) are obvious mistakes in Lucas's filmography, I think your accusations that Lucas's films are racist is complete nonsense.
You're talking about a guy who is married to an African American woman. Whose trademark movie series involves a diverse ragtag group (made up of humans, alien creatures and robots) joining together to fight a fascist empire and his other famous franchise is about an archaeologist who travels the world with companions of all ethnicities and exploring different cultures, religions and landmarks. Now you seriously can't tell me that Lucas's films are racist.
Finally, going back to the topic: American Graffiti blows away Mischief. AG explores the time period of the early 60's and how the events (like Vietnam) effect the characters. The characters grow throughout the film and it succeeds at being dramatic, funny and thrilling.
Mischief is like a cheap knockoff with cheap nudity thrown in. It's a poorly-written cartoon of a movie that only garners attention 30 years later due to its tacky sex scene (which isn't even that great).
Definitely. The nude shower scene was the only good thing in Porky's. Mischief was better than other period films like American Graffiti or Grease or Dirty Dancing IMO. Great high school coming of age movie.
shareThis movie is criminally underrated!!
shareI love this movie, and I absolutely adore the friendship between Gene and Jonathan. This movie is very funny at times, but can be so touching at others. And, I feel so bad for Gene and his home life. I would have loved to have befriended him...and he was SO freaking HOT! :)
shareIt's about a thousand times better
