Adultery unclear?
I really wasn’t sure if Ed’s wife was cheating on him, or if he was just imagining her humping another guy through paranoia.
He returns home from work to sleep, sees a car, walks up to the bedroom window and hears humping (although it’s not 100% clear) then calmly drives off.
In the next shot he’s back at work half asleep - it made me think he was dreaming all that, and then we suddenly cut to his wife nailing another guy - which he is imagining/remembering, he suddenly wakes up.
Then we cut to a TV and he’s back home with his wife… and doesn’t even mention her affair 🙃 Now, obviously the film is humorously suggesting he’s so underslept and depressed that he doesn’t care enough to raise the issue but the way it’s structured is so confusing.
The film pretty much confirms later on that his wife is indeed cheating on him, but I honestly wasn’t sure. The editing is… messy.
I like this film but Landis must have been on some heavy coke in ‘85, it’s all over the place. Anyone else confused by this on first watch?
