The Greatest Bad Movie of all Time?

I think so.

This one has it all, including the 'right' name -- "The Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf".

You know it's bad but you keep watching; it's all wrong but you have to respect its misguided efforts to entertain.

Whether you agree or not, do you know any other contendas in the same league? (please don't list "Plan 9" as that one's not so bad it's good, it's so bad it's BAD).

I thought Troll 2 had that title?
Failing that The Toxic Avenger and The Class of Nuke 'em High.

I haven't seen those ones yet. Regardless, do you agree that "Howling II" is at least a good contender?

reply

It is definitely a good contender.

Toxic Avenger is up there with it, too....but I think it was purposely made that way, lol.

I only barely liked the Troma films because they were intentionally trying to make camp films. They were fair, but them being so blatant about it turned me off.

I loved the B movies of Jim Wynorski and Fred Olen Ray much better.

Oh, as for contenders, you can include any of the Andy Sidaris movies with the Playboy bunnies as federal agents. They were "bad", but they had some bodacious babes which cancelled out the silly plots and dialogue.

'The Last Slumber Party' is the greatest bad movie of all time, but yes, this is bad but great :)

2 others I'd add:

1. Amityville Horror. The original, not the remake or sequels. Silly beyond belief.

2. JFK. Yep, the Oliver Stone(d) movie. The most cliched, hammy acting I've seen in ages. The whacky conspiracy theories and the glamorization of the kook Jim Garrison is beyond funny.

Sorority House Massacre II. It's cleavers vs cleavage and the results are Delta Delta Deadly!

I didn't think this movie was that bad, actually. Not nearly as good as the first one of course, but still entertaining enough to be worth my time.

Death lives in the Vault of Horror!

reply

That's just it: It IS entertaining despite it's bad-ness, and therefore worth your time, which makes it one of the greatest bad movies of all time.

reply

I enjoyed this more than the original and for sure it's not half as bad as the sequels that followed.

reply

It sure is.
Troll 2 might be one of the most "famous" bad movies out there but I have always found it to be rather dull.
I remember I was looking forward to see it after watching some of the scenes on Youtube, but thats just it, I had seen the best part of the film and the rest was no near as funny or entertaining it was just boring.
Now, Howling II is pure entertainment from start to end and I fell in love with it a couple of years ago and its just keep getting better all the time.

The Toxic Avenger is not a bad movie or even a "Its-so-bad-its-good" film, but a full blown masterpiece of modern cinema that should be studied in schools all over the world along with Arnold Schwarzeneggers Commando (1985) and Slys Cobra (1986).

"Village of the Giants" (1965) also qualifies as one of the greatest bad movies of all time. It's a bad movie and, yet, it's thoroughly entertaining, and entertainment is the name of the game.

Another great and very funny b-movie by Phillippe Mora (Howling II and The Beast Within).

reply

Yes, I own Howling III on DVD and you are right, but it's not as entertaining as Howling II.
