This movie is just plain creepy

A lot of 80s movies have things that you just wouldn't do today. This movie is a glaring example of that. Bad language. Penis jokes. A kid who tells a maid in spanish that there are sexual torture toys in the attic and drugs in the drawers. What gives?

I'm glad they don't make "kids" movies like this anymore. And there is a reason why, it's called "common sense" and "common decency".

The only thing creepy, here, is this thread. Some people have way too much time on their hands, if this is what they spend it doing.

You've got to be kidding with "just wouldn't do today". This stuff is common now on television shows broadcast during the 'family hours'. Compared to some TV shows The Goonies is practically G rated.

Unlike the 80s, kids today have access to pornography through computers an mobiles.I think that is more frightening than few jokes in a movie.

I am not an 80s kids (90s kid), but when I look back, I think we definitely had it so much better than today's kids.

The things you mentioned are just some of the reasons why "kids" movies were so good back then. Creepy? No, it's fun humor.

You want something corny? You got it!

Lol no wonder kids turn out messed up now today, are you upset you didn't get a participation trophy in something?

I wish they made MORE movies like this, today is too PC / Liberal. It's made the world full of wussies.

reply

True. That's why I showed my kid a bunch of eighties movies when she was little. She knows how to handle situations like an eighties kid/teen.

reply

That's awesome!! Good job. I did the same thing and I would always rough house with my kids to toughen them up. It worked too since they're now teenagers and they're pretty hard nosed.

The older I get, the more penis jokes I see in this movie.

I'm 36 now, but it took me until about a decade ago to see One-Eyed Willy as a penis joke. And I also just read that Data's real name is Richard (often shortened to 'Dick') Wang.

They are two of the more obscure ones, but there are plenty more overt ones.

I was just thinking that fantastic kids movies like this would never get made in this over-pampared era of brain-numbing sensitivity.
