Original vs Remake

Hey guys, if you like discussing remakes vs the originals you should check out the web series Boots To ReBoots. They got a new review up discussing Fright Night and other remakes like Evil Dead, Halloween, RoboCop, Judge Dredd and so on.

The original Fright Night is one of my favorite vampire flicks and a fun 80s movie. The remake wasn't bad, it just wasn't great in my opinion. If I had to watch a Fright Night movie, it's definitely the original.

I agree that the remake wasn't bad, but not as good as the original
which is also one of my favorite horror films. I like that Chris
Sarandon made a cameo in the remake too.

The original is a masterpiece. The remake, not so much.

I think they are both just as good, I surprisingly enjoy the remake more though (too much CGI is my only complaint, but I guess it just adds to its silliness).

Original- 10/10

Remake- 7/10

Both are good IMO, but the original has that unbeatable 80's charm to it, better cast and atmosphere, and has a better score as well.

Colin Farrell did a fine job - most involved did, but when you're remaking a classic, of any genre, you're going to have to live up to comparisons. 'Fright Night 2011' is an okay film, and Colin is a blast to watch - but certain roles are written for certain actors, and while Chris Sarandon never did become as big as he probably hoped, there isn't an actor on the planet, that can play Jerry Dandridge the way Sarandon played it.

Instead of trying to follow in the footsteps of Sarandon's version, Colin Farrell's version went in a different direction, more of a serial killer trying to dominate his territory, which was the right thing to do, because Colin Farrell doesn't have what it takes to pull off Sarandon's version.

'Fright Night 2011' is an enjoyable one time viewing - but 'Fright Night' is a film that never grows old. Tom Holland/Chris Sarandon should be proud.
