When I first viewed the South Park movie in theatres, most of the film wasn't audible becasue laughter from the audience was deafening. But the parts I was able to enjoy, had me in stitches... even to the point where I had trouble breathing on several occasions.
Nice list though. Several of your picks round out my top twenty.

How could you guys leave out "The Naked Gun"? Actually the original series that spawned that movie ("Police Squad") was 20 times as funny. Probably one of the best comedy shows EVER.
shareI love "Naked Gun", as well as the "Hotshot" and "Airplane" vehicles(no pun intended)... but I couldn't, in all fairness, include them, because the campy "joke-a-second" formula is too deliberate. Regardless... they rock!

All of the films listed (that I've seen), are classic.
In my opinion, "Grosse Point Blank" might be the smartest film ever. As far as "Johnny Dangerously" is concerned, Piscopo's "once" quote is one of my all-time favorites.

Honestly, I had to think really hard and came up with Johnny Dangerously to round out the list. The film is just filled with so many great things "Once" is one of my favoites, and I have a tendancy, when something gets lost in translation, to reply "Johnny and the Mothers are playing 'Stompin' at the Savoy' in Vermont tonight."
I'm not sure "Grosse Point Blank" is the smartest film ever made (I tend to cast a vote for Steven Hawking's "A Brief History of Time"), but it certainly is a helluva lot smarter than your average comedy.
I'm not trying to get into a semantic argument, I just want the protein, but Grosse Point Blanke has some awesome writing/coversations in it....part of what draws me to Pulp Fiction, my No. 1 movie of All Time
shareI'd just like to note it's very possible to think a movie is funny and not like it. Comedy is hard, because it not only has to be funny but also interesting. I haven't seen The Jerk, but with the exception of the (IMHO) wretched Caddyshack, Animal House and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, the rest are at least watchable.
shareI interpreted the OP's list as one of pure comedies, not the Annie Hall or Vietnam type. That said, Flirting with Disaster would have to be up there on my list. And I can't see how Airplane, after all these years, would not be number one. Actually, I never cared for the Blues Brothers. Caddyshack is just overrated and too many frat boys quote it like its the Bible (you have to BE the ball - we get it!) Ferris is just great. I actually like Meatballs better than Caddyshack but that wouldn't make my Top 10 comedy list either.
shareThe only sacred ones on that list, to me, would be Animal House, Fletch, Vacation, and Office Space. I don't think any of your choices are bad (I'd love to catch Stripes on TV sometime) but they would never make my list of favorites.

I actually didn't find either Caddyshack film entertaining, and I'm not big on Stripes...but it has it's moments. I agree with the rest of your list though.
