What if Matrix complied with the villains' evil plan?

Imagine if Matrix had done what they'd wanted him to do and executed the President of Val Verde in 24 hours. I doubt that in such a short time span that he could have come up with a good plan with an exit strategy, but even if he had plot armor it would have become a major international incident.

Does anyone else think that could have been an even more interesting film? Matrix goes to Val Verde (with full plot armor) and begrudgingly takes down an entire 3rd world army and its president just to please the villains, who aid him the whole way and even reunite him with his daughter once it becomes clear that he has become one of them?

If he had complied his daughter would have been dead. He knew that. Bennett also knew that and was looking forward to that. That's why Matrix didn't comply.

reply

you mean theyd have killed her just to piss him off once he'd done their bidding?
I'm not saying you're wrong, but why would they do that?

reply

Yes it would have been in their best interest to keep her alive while he's alive as it's their only bargaining chip, plus they were well aware of how resourceful Matrix.

reply

Because they wouldn't need her anymore. Once Matrix did what they wanted then he would either be dead or a wanted fugitive. They probably had a plan in place to eliminate him themselves once he completed the job. Bennett made that very clear.
Matrix: I'll be back, Bennett!
Bennett: John... I'll be ready.

So , do you think kidnappers automatically kill the kidnappee once they have obtained a ransom "Because they wouldn't need her anymore"?

Seems bad for business.

Fair point but if Matrix had been a little nicer to the villains when they were giving him his mission orders, that may have slightly raised the likelihood that they would have spared his daughter. He called Arius a scumbag, and threatened Scully to "kill him last" etc. which meant the bad guys were alerted to his vengeful nature. If Matrix was smarter, he would have been more enthusiastic and cooperative and then gotten his revenge when the villains had their guard down.

Its hard to see how the villains envisioned the endgame .
Possibly they could force him to do the mission , but theres no way he's not coming for them afterwards , Chenny alive or dead would make no difference , except perhaps they'd be killed quicker if they spared her.
